We long for Spring | Entry for the Shadow Contest/SMASh.

For this week's Shadowhunters Contest, I searched for a long time among all my photos. I haven't gotten around to picking up my camera again this year and going out… that would have been of little use, by the way, because we haven't seen any real sun in our small Netherlands yet.

50 shades of gray ...

Lots of rain today, but no sun, so no shadows either. Now, of course, I have enough photos in my archive. There is not the problem. More than enough pictures, but by searching for the Shadowhunters Contest, I discovered something.

A play of light and shadow.

Although of course we all know that photography is a play of light and shadow. And yes, photos really get much more attractive by using this light and shadow! I discovered that I have few photos that have a lot of shadows.

I don't have many photos with shadows!

Yes, of course I have photos that use light and shadow, but I seriously discovered that when I was scrolling through all my photos, I didn't have that many photos with shadows at all. For the simple reason that I try to shoot without harsh black shadows.

I discovered a gap in my photography.

And now that I'm looking for it, it suddenly really stands out. Why actually? Many creative photos can be made with shadows. In fact, very many of the most creative photos I know, are made up of shadows. And I know countless examples of creative photography, in which shadows play the leading role. However, I have never done much with it myself… A serious gap in my photography!

It's giving new ideas.

That makes me think, and gives me ideas to develop again, because many of these ideas, I could just do right now. Even if I don't really have the opportunity to really get out and about. I can play with light and shadow anywhere!

Soon!

However, that's not really an issue now, and so today not a very creative shadow photo from my side, but count on it that it will come soon. You could say my brain has been shaken up a bit.

Floating Skipper!

Today at least a photo with a nice shadow on it, and in this case I thought it gave the photo something extra. It is precisely through the shadow that you can see that Skipper is literally floating above the ground here as he happily jumps over to me.

Happy dog, happy owner.

A happy dog in the picture, and that automatically makes a happy owner. If the dogs enjoy it, the owner enjoys it too. It's that simple. And this photo also makes me enjoy even more on such a gray, wet day like today. I know, the real winter has yet to begin, but I'm already thinking about spring in my head. Going out without a coat with the dogs, being busy in the garden. We are slowly making preparations for the garden. Figuring out what we all want this year, and looking up the seeds, ordering them, and they can be grown again in a week or two at the most. And then it's slowly counting down to spring again. The most wonderful time of the year when nature comes back to life. I can hardly wait until the time has come to see the first faint green outlines slowly forming a cloth of leaves around the branches of the now bare trees.

The early darkness is almost behind us.

Fortunately, the days are starting to get longer, and you notice that fairly quickly. That early darkness, short days and long evenings is almost behind us. And with that you also notice that we are now slowly starting to get the real cold of the real winter, keep on biting ... and then it will be spring again in about 12 weeks!

We long for Spring

This year, I won't be keeping track of how long it will take before we can say that it is Spring, but trust that Skipper and I are living up to it together. Although, ...

Skipper had to let us know that he also wants another meter of snow before spring is here again.

We'll see if his wish comes true!
