(TUR-ENG)TÜRKİYE'DE ZOR GÜNLER-DIFFICULT DAYS IN TURKEY

(ENG)

I didn't get any sleep last night. Although I was very tired, the sleep that did not come was starting to disturb me. Fortunately, I fell asleep. I must have slept sometime between 3 and 4 am.

Without even realizing that I was sleeping, I opened my eyes at 7 am with the alarm. It was as if I had closed my eyes and opened them a minute later. I woke up to an unusual number of missed calls and messages on my phone. I always put my phone on silent because I'm a very light sleeper. As such, none of the callers were able to reach him. The callers were people I knew from AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency), especially my mother and father. Since I am an Afad volunteer, I am immediately informed in case of any disaster or emergency.

I was afraid anyway. This proved to be a disaster. My first job was to call my mom. I got the news that there was an earthquake in Diyarbakır, in my hometown. They said we are sitting in the car and waiting. When I found out they were fine, I turned it off and looked at the messages and news. I learned that there was an earthquake in our city, Kahramanmaraş, and that 10 of our cities were affected. This was terrible news. I didn't want to believe it. Most of the mentioned provinces are where I live, where my family is or where my friends are.

I was in tears at the sights of the wreckage that came before my eyes. I spent my whole day following these news and reaching out to my loved ones. We woke up to a very bad day for the country. I offer my best wishes to my friends living in the provinces where the disaster took place. I think we will get through these difficult days together.

Thank you for letting us know that you are ok.
I am not yet sure how we can best organize ourselves as Hive community to help, but do let people know if/how we can help. I believe we as Hive have a better chance to actually help people as opposed to just sitting aimlessly on fb with an 'appropriate' profile picture.

Keep us posted.
