The Triumph of Web3 and Decentralization: Bittrex Returns Stolen Funds
In recent news, justice has finally been served in a case that highlighted the resilience and strength of the decentralized web3 community. Thanks to the effort of @blocktrades team, we've been updated on the conclusion of a long-standing legal battle involving the theft of crypto assets from Steem whales during a hardfork back in 2020. This case demonstrated the importance of blockchain integrity and the continued fight for decentralization.
But you can still find it here :)
Three years ago, an ambitious yet ill-informed thief attempted to steal a significant amount of funds from over 60 blockchain wallets during a Steem hardfork. This brazen act of theft was quickly countered by a vigilant and skilled individual within the Hive community, who managed to access the temporary holding account, @community321 (steem account), and transfer the stolen funds to the @bittrex exchange. With a message requesting the return of the assets to their rightful owners, this modern-day Robin Hood of Hive hoped for a swift resolution.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Bittrex, hesitated to return the stolen funds to their original owners. This decision led to a lengthy legal battle in which the web3 community fought for their rights, property, and the core principles of decentralization.

Now, after three long years, the persistence and determination of the web3 community have paid off. Bittrex has finally returned the stolen funds, consisting of 8,752,313.006 Steem and 294.207 SBD, to some of the original owners. Although not all affected parties have received their funds back, this victory marks a significant milestone in the ongoing fight for decentralization and web3.
This situation serves as a reminder that the Hive community is not just a collection of people but a real community that is willing to stand up for the values of decentralization and freedom.

To conclude, the return of the stolen funds by Bittrex marks a significant victory for all of us although many of us are not included in a lawsuit this only proves that the fight for decentralization is the most important of all. As we continue to develop and explore the potential of decentralized technologies, it is essential to remember the importance of standing together and defending the core values that have brought us this far.
