HiveP2P is a peer-to-peer service designed to facilitate the exchange of HIVE and HBD for fiat currency, products, or services. Although we have focused on the needs of the @hivecuba community, our vision is global, and we actively collaborate with other communities. In this post, we share our current progress and the challenges we face in the near future.

Our Technological Infrastructure

We operate through two main technological fronts:

HiveCuBaP2P_Bot: A Telegram bot for publishing offers and managing escrow-based transactions. It allows users to handle offers and the entire negotiation process directly within Telegram, minimizing mobile data usage and avoiding complex infrastructure. This is especially valuable in the current Cuban context, characterized by frequent blackouts and limited internet access. Dispute arbitration is handled personally by community members.
HiveP2P Dapp: A decentralized web application that guarantees self-custodial escrow management on the HIVE blockchain. It operates similarly to the Telegram bot but with direct integration with Hive-Keychain for signing operations and tracking escrow status.

Additionally, we had deployed HiveCash, a custodial wallet based on the eCash protocol for offline-first HBD transfers—a useful feature in Cuba, where connectivity is not always available.

Support and Funding

We have received invaluable help and supervision from HIVE friends such as 3Speak (@speak.delegation) and Dan (@theycallmedan), to whom we are deeply grateful. Their delegations and curation rewards allowed us to rent the VPS servers that support our services, with a small surplus for support and development—all without charging any commission to HiveP2P users, staying true to the HIVE spirit we love.

The Impact of HIVE's Price Drop

We are aware that the sharp decline in HIVE's price threatens the survival of many projects on the blockchain, and HiveP2P is no exception. The withdrawal of external support (delegations) forces us to optimize our resources (we have already closed the HiveCash service due to low usage) and consider applying commissions—always aiming for the minimum required to keep the P2P service running. We have 13 weeks ahead; this is no coincidence—it is the time it takes for the staked HP we are using to cover costs to become available, now supplemented by personal contributions from the HiveCubaDev staff.

Using HiveStats as a reference and an estimated average HIVE price of $0.1039 since the service launched (according to TradingView), here is our revenue breakdown:

We have not included the symbolic bonus we give to those handling development and support—averaging around 5 HBD per month, which in times of abundance reached up to 20 HBD.

A Critical Juncture

Considering that HiveP2P has been operating since March 22, 2024—26 months ago—the average monthly cost has been 22.25 HBD. With current weekly income, covering this is no longer feasible. After HiveCubaDEV analyzes these numbers, we will need to devise strategies, which may include restructuring fees—even if we dislike the idea. It would be a great loss if HiveP2P had to halt its services entirely.

We have other value-added services in development, but we have minimized them to ensure the sustainability of what already exists.

Nuestra infraestructura tecnológica

Operamos a través de dos frentes tecnológicos principales:

HiveCuBaP2P_Bot: Un bot de Telegram para la publicación de ofertas y la intermediación mediante un sistema escrow (garantía). Permite gestionar ofertas y todo el proceso de negociación directamente desde Telegram, minimizando el consumo de datos móviles y evitando infraestructuras complejas. Esto es especialmente valioso en el contexto cubano actual, marcado por apagones prolongados y limitaciones en el acceso a Internet. El arbitraje ante disputas es atendido de forma personalizada por miembros de la comunidad.
Dapp HiveP2P: Una aplicación web descentralizada que garantiza la gestión autocustodia del escrow dentro de la blockchain de HIVE. Funciona de manera similar al bot de Telegram, pero con integración directa con Hive-Keychain para la firma de operaciones y el seguimiento del estado del proceso de escrow.

Adicionalmente, habíamos desplegado HiveCash, una billetera de custodia basada en el protocolo eCash para transferencias de HBD sin conexión (offline first) , una funcionalidad muy útil en el entorno cubano, donde la conectividad no siempre está garantizada.

Apoyo y financiamiento

Hemos contado con la ayuda y supervisión de amigos de HIVE como 3Speak (@speak.delegation) y Dan (@theycallmedan), a quienes debemos mucho y estamos eternamente agradecidos. Sus delegaciones y las recompensas por curación nos permitieron arrendar los VPS que soportan los servicios, con un pequeño excedente para atención al soporte y desarrollo, sin cobrar comisión alguna a los usuarios de HiveP2P, fieles al espíritu de HIVE que tanto amamos.

El impacto de la caída del precio de HIVE

Somos conscientes de que la abismal caída del precio de HIVE amenaza la supervivencia de varios proyectos en la blockchain, y HiveP2P no es la excepción. La retirada del apoyo externo (delegaciones) nos obliga a optimizar los recursos (ya cerramos el servicio de HiveCash por su bajo uso) y a evaluar la aplicación de comisiones, siempre buscando el mínimo que permita mantener el servicio P2P activo.

Tenemos 13 semanas por delante. No es casualidad: es el tiempo que tarda en liberarse el HP en staking con el que estamos cubriendo los costos, ahora complementado con aportes personales del staff de HiveCubaDev.

Un momento crítico

Teniendo en cuenta que HiveP2P existe desde el 22 de marzo de 2024 —han transcurrido 26 meses—, el costo medio mensual ha sido de 22.25 HBD. Con los ingresos actuales, no será posible cubrirlo. Bajo la manga tenemos otros servicios de valor en desarrollo, pero los hemos minimizado para garantizar el sostenimiento de al menos lo que ya existe.
