The Story Was Not Told To Me

(Edited)

The story was not told, I was there live and direct and witnessed how everything started and ended.

It was not far from the morning that faithful day, a day after Valentine's Celebration. Fortunately for me, I came to the school premises to check on some things because I was coming from off campus. As a final-year student, I needed to be close to the school in case of any emergency compelled by the fact that the town has been ravaged by a lot of insecurity. I was jejelly resting on my bed that morning when we began to hear gun shoots sporadically.

With the knowledge, I have gathered based on security matters I told those around me not to move about and that they should just lay flat on the floor, some of them adhered and some refused to.

Gently I remained on my bed without disturbance. Everyone was just trying to connect with their people off campus to ascertain what the matter was. Later we got to know that some terrorists had invaded the town and taken over the army Barack, went to the powerhouse and made away with some weapons. It was gathered that they sent a warning that nobody should vote for Goodluck Jonathan during the coming month's election.

How the town regained sanity at that time was that some fighter jet was deployed to scatter them. Since then I have not heard of any incidence like that from Gombe city.

That day was not funny at all as many ladies even messed themselves up due to fear. Later some people asked me why I was not scared, I told them that fear has never helped anyone and can never help. The best thing for me to do was what I did as we await for clear-cut information to arrive, and what if I stand to run and a stray bullet hits me which is better? All of them reasoned with me and applauded my courage.

This incident took place in Gombe state Nigeria on 15th, February 2015.

This is my entry for the #silverbloggers #bom #prompt

Your Visit to my blog adds much joy to me for that reason, I say a big thank you.

We define ourselves an evolved/evolving world, with growing rights thanks to a lot of different international humanitarian organizations. I think that there is still a lot of work to do to allow everybody, to see less scenes like this one!
Best of luck my friend!

Fear can sometimes get us out of danger as well as we can lose our lives because of it. You acted intelligently. @hivedeb

You made me remember my mother she usually grows up in moments like the one you have described, I don't know how she does it, but I admire her for that, I sometimes freeze in some moments and as you point out it is not wise to be walking around if there are bullets everywhere, so you were not only brave but also intelligent.

I would be scared too when in such a situation. This reminded me of a shooting incident that happened during my teenage years. It was terrifying.

Your attitude was the most suitable for this type of event, because you did nothing to despair...the best thing you could do was to try to preserve your life. I congratulate you and here you are telling your story!
