#1 post: COMMON BUT UNIQUE – BEANS
Hi Hivians!!
It is an amazing place to be, Foodies Bee Hive. As a newbie, still carrying out my exploration to different communities so as to find the niches that best suit me, I met this prestigious community.
Wow!
It is really a place where one of my kind is meant to be. I love food, cooking and knowing about other peoples’ cultural recipes so I see myself being in the right place.
A Brief Introduction
I’m Victor Uko Edet, who is a new member in the foodies bee hive community. I am a little boy who is after seeking wisdom. That’s why in the little time I’ve been in the blockchain, Hive, I try every possible best to engage every community I see myself. Now, being in this community, I can say that I am ready to learn new recipes which I will practice to cook or prepare here in my locality (somewhere in Nigeria); also, I am ready to show us some of the meals I can prepare (both my cultural and other common meals) or I do eat.
About Today
Today, I wasn’t left out in the kitchen. Due to some busy schedule of my father and sister, I was the master of the kitchen with my younger sister. Being the master, I had to decide what is meant to cooked or served as breakfast.
Guess what I brought to the table? Beans with unripe plantain. In my culture (Ibibio nation), it is called ndidia akorti ye nkim ukom. The meal was so sumptuous to the extent that it made my siblings demand for an extra after eating the first round. So, without waste of time, let me share with us how I prepared it.
The Preparation
Before I started cooking, I made sure the ingredients were all in place. Unfortunately, some ingredients were not available.
I decided to purchase them in the market. The ingredients used for the preparations of the meal include: beans and unripe bunches of plantain (which are the major ingredients),
onions, fresh pepper, crayfish,
salt, some seasonings (like: maggi), dried fish, palm oil and water.
Having gotten the ingredients complete, I had to prepare each of them that needed to be prepared.
Like the onions, I chopped them into small pieces;
for the crayfish, I had to sieve it to remove the grains or unwanted parts, thereafter I washed the fresh pepper and joined with the crayfish to grind them together;
next thing, I had to wash my dried fish and break them into little.
Once that was done, I piled the unripe plantains, washed them and chopped them to little pieces.
For the beans, I washed them very well.
The recipes were ready! It was time to lit the gas cooker.
Cooking Process
I boiled my beans for some minutes so that it could be soft. Though some people do fry their palm oil and make a sauce out of it so that they could add it in the beans, I didn’t try that way (though that way is still okay).
I added my plantain into the beans that was parboiling so that it could be soft as the beans. Few minutes later while it was still boiling, I added my palm oil to it.
Thereafter the recipes that I prepared, I put them one after the other into the pot with some sprinkle of salt alongside. The seasons were then added to bring out the taste and sweet savor.
Yummy! The meal is getting done. I decided to have a taste of it to know what I actually prepared.
The meal really tasted nice, so all I had to do is to wait for the water to dry up since its quantity was in the right proportion.
The meal was ready and served to everyone! That was how I prepared my beans and boiled plantain.
In my locality, the meal can be eaten with other stuffs like garri (processed cassava), custard, oat, bread, and lots more.
I am Victor Uko Edet, with my little explanation I believe you can try preparing it in your abode. So, tell me, what did you have for breakfast?

Facinating combination of ingredients. Wouldn't have thought unripe fruit with dried fish and beans would be good, but if cooked right, I bet it's delicious!
This is another recipe I owe it to myself to try! Thanks for sharing!
Have a great day!

This looks delicious indeed.
I do enjoy beans with ripe or unripe plantain or with yam or potatoes.
I don't really like just porridge beans, so this meal is totally calling me.
