Creative Nonfiction Prompt #43 -- The Amazing Feast!!
My days in high school were not fun. I went through a lot of challenges and difficulties before graduating. One major activity that made me graduate successfully was because some of my friends and I organized tutorials or private lectures for some students who were slow learners or have challenges with certain courses. Through this, I was able to earn a lot of money which was enough for my own expenses and also to support my family.
During the period of running those tutorials, one of my brilliant lecturers introduced a lady to me named Susan Eloho.
Susan Eloho is a year ahead of me in level, She happens to be one of the most popular girls on campus, drives an expensive car, and lives a very expensive lifestyle. She is not too tall, light-skinned, and beautiful.
We met and discussed at length and during our conversation, she made me understand the fact that she found it difficult to understand some courses and that she had already failed some courses as we speak. She told me categorically that money isn't her problem and I replied when should we commence the lecture? She said right away and I said cool.
I drilled her, I worked on her effortlessly and after some weeks she started improving. With extensive tutorials and guidance, she was able to clear all her outstanding courses for that semester and had good results in her other courses. She has just a semester to graduate and she must pass all her outstanding courses that fall within the final semester and the courses she is offering at present.
The semester came to an end and I was already packing my stuff, preparing to go home when she walked in, My lecturer, you didn't tell me you were in a rush to leave the hostel, She said. I replied, yes , I couldn't wait to. She sat down quietly and went deep in thought.
I asked if everything was all right. She answered no, and I asked why. She pleaded that instead of going home we should hang around in the hostel. I was not happy about that and asked why. She replied that after the break she would be having just a semester to graduate, and any failed course(s) would amount to an additional year in the high institution. Her reason for us staying back in the hostel was genuine enough, so I had to agree to stay back.
We started preparation, while she was busy making notes and reading her final year courses. On the other hand, I was doing justice to a few outstanding courses she had. The preparation was intense, and the spirit was very high.
Examinations were done and dusted, and when the results were released, her performance was unbelievable. She cleared her results, graduated, and traveled back to the eastern part of the country, while I am still here in the western part and have two semesters to graduate.
When she arrived home, her family called to appreciate everything I had done for her and I said it was nothing. Her dad said he would like to meet me in person because Susan's elder sister's traditional wedding is coming up in a few months. He added that all my expenses would be covered by him. I replied that I would try to make it to the ceremony. He jokingly said it's not a matter of trying, that I have to be at the ceremony, and I replied, 'Yes, sir.'
I received an invite a few days before the D-day, and I was fully prepared to travel.
Here comes the D-day, the program was so colorful that I was given VIP treatment. Susan's dad wanted me to be beside him, and he kept showing me around and telling close family relatives how I helped his daughter graduate.
The lunch feast was amazing, I could not believe my eyes. The feast was a combination of salted meat, smoked chicken, fried fish, fried rice, lots of native and continental dishes, yogurt, fruit juice, and unlimited wine.

I enjoyed myself to the fullest; the feast was one of a kind. I would have had myself to blame if I had not shown up at the traditional wedding, I say to myself. The ceremony came to an end at about 6:00 p.m., and I headed straight to my hotel room to rest and prepare for my departure the following day.
I left the parking lot as early as 5:30 a.m., and by 8:30 p.m., I was home telling my family about the journey and the amazing lunch feast I had.

Hehe, you are welcome.
The sumptuous feast description conveys his wonder at the experience vividly.
The narrator's decision to forgo returning home early to continue tutoring Susan reveals his strong character.
Thanks for the analysis.
It's lovely that you were able to devote your time so selflessly in coaching her like that. And it's only right that you're accorded the due respect. I'm quite sure it's a sacrifice she won't forget in a hurry. Glad you could share that with us @holler✨

You're welcome.🌺
Thanks🌺
Great to see that both yours and Susan's persistence paid off in the end. Her father must have really appreciated your efforts for you to be invited to his other daughter's wedding. I wonder if he was hoping for another romance to blossom. The feast sounds amazing, and although the story built up to the feast, it would have been nice to have had more of the story centred around this prompt. It does sound like you had a wonderful day. You also tell us about conversations between yourself and Susan. Every story needs narrative, but I think the conversations would have presented better as actual conversations in your piece, using speech marks and dialogue tags to show the relationship and banter between yourself and Susan.
Thank you for writing in The Ink Well and for supporting the works of other writers in the community.
Thanks for the observations and corrections, it is duly noted.
Gratitude! Gratitude!! Gratitude!!!
I enjoy your relaxed writing style, @holler. Sharing stories from your past reveals a lot about your character. I feel like we get to know you a little more with each encounter.
I appreciate your compliments and it's amazing being part of the wonderful family.
Great story, a lot of this happen in school where a fellow student becomes the lecturer of another student, haha. I was thinking along the line, a romantic relationship began. It's good to know it was strictly business. You did well trying to help out.
However, if you don't mind me saying, is that her real name? Wouldn't you consider using an imaginary name? Incase she stumbles on this one day, she may not be comfortable that you spilled the secret of her graduation. Just an observation anyways.

Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate your kind words. I used one of her names, I won't wanna use her complete name, that won't be fair on my part.
