Getting to know death - card number 13 in my Tarot Card generation series

Thirteen of Twenty One is a pretty good outcome before you run into death. In Tarot, Death isn't a bad thing, or a thing to be feared.

Typically, The Death card depicts a figure of death, usually as a skeleton or a hooded figure, holding a flag or a scythe, riding on horseback.

The background usually shows a landscape of death, such as a battlefield, a graveyard or a city in flames. The death card has a strong symbolism as it often represent an ending and a transition to something new. Sometimes, this card can also indicate a change in perspective or way of thinking, rather than an actual physical death. it can be interpreted as a metaphor for the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one, rather than an indication of actual physical death.

The card is often associated with themes of transformation, rebirth, and the end of the old and the beginning of the new.

I am going to be aiming steadfastly into the morbid territory here, as there's a reason why I wrote my university thesis in Visual Art on the topic of how death is represented in Art.

And by that, I mean the theme of Death, not the character of Death, as we will be exploring here and over the new few posts as I try to short list the best, grim, yet most interesting representation.

There will be plenty of thumbnails to explore and critique as part of this process. I better get down to business.

The representation of horse and rider here are far more elegant as a thumbnail than when compared to a full version of the image. The Horse is rather poorly rendered; the character is also not all that fantastically rendered, and when it comes to the background, that isn't all that detailed either.

I'm really quite astonished by this image. While it isn't too different from the first one, I really like the perspective. This gives the image a dual meaning. First; there's the unusual perspective - we do not usually see a horse running towards us at full pace, and even less so, with a masked figure.

If I am going to use this image as the final, I would certainly need to modify the face under the hood - to either be completely black, or deeply in shadow.

Here, the representation of the horse is almost quite comical in comparison to the one that came before. Unfortunately, that means this is about where this image's prospects will also demise.

Other than the border / halo in the background; this image has no strong points beyond the standard (and exceptional) depiction of the drapery. The horse is represented in a poor manner, and it has a strange neckline and legs.

I thought that this image would look cooler than what it does enlarged. There are some serious cool images from this prompt, and I'm excited to examine more of them. They could be great metal album covers, or book covers, if metal was a genre of book.

He had never thought of death on horseback. He always visualized her walking and with the scythe in her hand.
