A weekend walk through Dean Cemetery enjoying some amazing Autumn colours

My wife and I took a walk through Dean Cemetery which is around 20mins walk from our house. As far as cemeteries go, its quite pretty. We can also use it as a short cut when heading to the town centre.

The cemetery has some pretty awesome trees in it, and they have turned a lovely colour for autumn. Their leaves are also making for a lovey bronze carpet around the ground.

The tree above sits close to the centre and its quite huge, and was looking stunning in the early morning sunshine.

The colours were really impressive and we stopped to take quite a few snaps, although it wasnt what we were planning to do.

This cemetery has a lot of large grave stones from well to do people from the 1800s. It sits just to the north of the city centre and is in quite a nice spot.

Its so pretty that we often take a short cut through it while on a walk into town.

With Edinburgh being so far north, the sun was quite low in the sky, so we were also getting some nice long shadows cast around the graveyard.

There were actually quite a few others in the cemetery also taking pics - I guess no one could resist with the lovely blue skies acting as a great background for the autumn colours.

And as already said, the shadows were also helping to set a lovely scene.

Again it was that lovely large tree in the centre that was the star of the show. I'm not sure what it is - maybe some kind of willow (?).

There are some lovely tomb stones around in this cemetery - clearly these people had enough cash that they wanted to leave something nice behind.

And just before we left the cemetery to continue our way into town, my wife spotted these guys up on a tall cherry picker working on the steeple of the church next to the cemetery. Atleast that had a nice day for it, and importantly no wind !

We really did enjoy our walk through the cemetery, and are glad we decided to take that route - it really was stunning.

All the best from Scotland !

Beautiful photos ! I'm pretty sure the tree is a Weeping Willow. Although they live best near ponds or with good underground water sources, I believe the Victorians liked to plant them in cemeteries for their symbolism and melodramatic appearance.

Wow, @hoosie, that truly is a gorgeous cemetery! The sun and trees are glorious! I think that tree might be a weeping European beech. That's what pops into my mind when I see it. Thanks for sharing this stunning place that's so close where you live! 😁🙏💚✨🤙
