Awesome statues, columns and monuments in Rome - they've got a few !!!

We were lucky enough to visit Rome, Italy back in October. I just love the city, and one thing it has in abundance is fantastic statues, columns and monuments - they are everywhere. I snapped tons of them, and thought I'd share a few here.

This angel is on the bridge right in front of Castel Sant Angelo. The clouds and light came out quite dramatically, making for a pretty cool pic !

The one above is one of my favs. An elephant carrying an obelisk, with the Pantheon in the background ! This was in the Pizza della Minerva.

The one above was also on a bridge over the Tiber (Ponte Principe Amedeo Savoia Aosta). Quite dramatic showing some intense struggle !

The one above was inside Castel Sant Angelo - Voldermort maybe ?

And the one above does not look like much, but its the mausoleum of Augustus Caesar. I've always wanted to see it. I missed it the first time round in Rome, and this last time it was shut ! Gutted.

However, I think that is a statue of him above - so atleast we got to see that (this was in the Roman forum area).

The one above is part of a pair up on the Capitoline Hill - quite large and impressive !

Also up on the Capitoline Hill is the statue of Romulus and Remus (the founders of Rome) suckling on the she wolf - this is a must see when in Rome (or atleast it was for me, being into Roman history).

And I just loved the one above. At night the statue shone a lovely colour of blue - quite impressive. This is the Colonna dell'Immacolata Concezione, which is quite near the Spanish Steps.

There were quite a few obelisks around - heres another (cant quite remember where !).

And another - in Piazza del Popolo.

And the one above is incorporated into the Fontana dei Fiumi in Paizza Navona.

Above is Trajan's Column, near the Roman forum, carved with his adventures spiraling up the column.

And it was well worth the climb to see the angel at the top of Castel Sant Angelo.

And this beautiful one was in the parkland outside of Castel Sant Angelo - I really liked it !

And above is some of the Vestal Virgins, in the Temple of Vesta on the Paletine Hill site.

Well I love Roman History, so I was pretty much in my element with all of this stuff. The beauty is incredible - such craftmanship. its only been a couple of months, and I already want to go back !!!!!! I better start saving my pennies !
