Wednesday Walk - Alnwick Riverside - starting at the lion bridge and walking along the castle side to the weir

We were on vacation in North East England last week, and one evening I went for a walk along the riverside in Alnwick, just below the Castle.

I started on the bridge which has this fantastic lion statue - the tail is quite crazy ! I wonder how many times thats been snapped of over the years !

The bridge is quite pretty, and I guess was erected by the castle owners (the Percy family) at some point, in keeping with the castle design.

And above is the view from the end of the bridge over to the castle.

And above was my 'arty shot' looking back across the bridge.

The riverside walk is really nice, and I couldnt help but stare at the castle the whole way along. I took a ton of pics, but I'm guessing I can only share so many shots of the same castle in one post !

The riverside walk is through one of the fields on the castle estate - they sometimes graze cows there, but they were in the next field when I went which was handy. As can be seen above, there is just a track running through which you have to follow.

I went as far as the weir, about half a mile, and then turned around. At the far end you can see the fish ladder, and also a ramp for letting other creatures get past the weir !

As I was heading back, the sun was beginning to set, and was making for some nice atmospherics !

With some nice cloud formations beginning to appear.

And when I got back to the bridge, I just had to take another shot of the lion - the statue looks like its seen a good few years of action !
