Wednesday Walk - around the pretty town of Arromanches-les-Bains in Normandy, France

While in France in August, we stopped in the pretty little coastal town of Arromanches-les-Bains, on the North Coast, in Normandy.

It was actually our first stop in France after we had gotten off the car Ferry in Caen. We drove a little along the coast and decided to stop there and have a walk around town.

It has a small pretty town centre thats strikes me as being very typically French - although it is geared towards tourists, and personally I find it quite lovely.

Its quite famous as being one of the places where the Allies built a temporary Mulberry harbour during world war 2. A lot of its tourism is centered around that.

The harbour will built with caissons - large concrete blocks that were floated over the channel from England and then sunk into place. You can see one of them poking out of the water closer to shore in the pic above. It broke free and was washed ashore where it has sat ever since. The other dark lines you can see further out to sea are the remains of some of the other blocks still in their original place.

The Mulberry harbour is quite something to see, and I did a post about it before from a previous trip when we were there a good few years before (link here).

We found an interesting mural (above ) while there. It looks like its in the style of Banksy, although I dont know if its a real Banksy or not. Its quite impressive though.

It is a lovely wee town to walk around, and we were loving looking at all the beautiful French houses.

It really is quite quaint. Many of the buildings certainly come across as being from that world war 2 era, so its quite nostalgic.

We also checked out a few of the tourist shops along the main street.

We enjoyed our walk, and then we got back in the car and set off for Quineville further around the coast, where we were staying for our first two nights in France.

That wraps up my wednesday walk for this week - all the best @hoosie !

Wow, this looks like a really cool place. I bet those houses are really something special. It would be cool to have a place like that in a coastal town like this. Since it was a tourist town were the people friendly?

It is a lovely wee town, and some of those lovely houses are right by the sea. It is a fairly friendly town - as is the Normandy area in general. We've been quite a few times and quite enjoy it.

Friend, I envy you that, France, it is a place that if I ever wanted to visit in winter or summer, it doesn't matter, but walking through its streets must be like entering a movie, very beautiful photos as always 👌 👍
