MYSELF VS. BOREDOM
I love cleaning. I like putting things in order and all, and that was how one day I woke up not having anything to do. I felt bored and I didn’t feel like even watching movies. Back then I didn’t like movies that much so it wouldn’t have helped my boredom. Well, that was when I decided to just do a general clean up of my room. When I started, I felt a little better but as I continued I had a different worry. The place was looking so disorganized and now I was already feeling not-bored and I couldn’t just stop any longer. I had to finish what I started.
I was so pained. I told myself that I should have thought of something else to do. Probably go on a stroll or something except scattering my room to rearrange it. Well, ever since that happened to me, I avoided cleaning anytime I’m bored. But the truth was it completely helped me. But that day, I was filled with so much regret. I mean there were so many other things I should have done to cure my boredom. Well it made me discover a very effective way to overcome boredom in no time lol.
Since I didn’t completely appreciate that way of fighting boredom, I sorted for other ways to overcome boredom. One of the ways I fight boredom now is by doing that one task that my mind keeps telling me not to engage in. When I start thinking too much I just take that bold step and do that one thing I keep running away from doing. It’s kind of a reverse uno. Doing that one thing that you don’t feel like doing but you know you should.

This one is hard and easy at the same time. The moment you can stop holding yourself back you will realize it wasn’t so hard after all. But as long as you keep thinking of how to make that first step you just keep holding back and drowning yourself in that boredom. Although these days I hardly ever feel bored. I always have things to do and besides that I just try to make sure I don’t let myself get to the point of feeling bored too. And that is because there are some kind of boredom that you just can’t easily overcome once you are trapped by it.
But if I ever find myself in that kind of boredom I’ll just scatter my space and start putting them back in order. I can’t resist this urge to make sure things are where they need to be especially in my own space. I can ignore it for some time but it won’t be for long at all. Especially when I know I don’t have anything that interests me, cleaning is just the best remedy for that kind of boredom.
This is my response to the first edition of the hivelearners topic on BOREDOM CAUSED IT. In my case the regret was just that I stressed myself too much to overcome the boredom I was experiencing at the time. But it helped me realized just how much cleaning can help me fight it. So it’s kind of a win win I guess.
