Stinging - Escozor
The second meaning of this word in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy is "feeling caused by sorrow or pain", honestly I can not find a better word to define the news that I read yesterday in various media in my country.
The first in this country
An exchange, not as important or active as others, to tell the truth, but quite well known and with a good number of clients, has just imposed a kind of playpen, preventing its users from withdrawing cryptocurrencies or fiat money invested in that platform.
Playpen
The word playpen refers us to an important but sad event in our recent history when, in the previous economic debacle of the early 2000s, banks restricted their clients from withdrawing money deposited in their accounts, as well as fixed terms and other investments. , only allowed partial withdrawals for derisory sums. I myself was a victim of that extreme measure taken to prevent a bank run from creating a crisis worse than the one that already existed. The latter is just my speculation since we do not know what could have happened if the measure to corral people's funds had not been taken. The truth is that the equivalent of about 40 thousand dollars or pesos remained inside the bank of which I was a client at that time since the one-to-one law still existed. I recovered them, well at least most of them, but in a very long period of time and without the convertibility law in force, to summarize it with a phrase widely used in these latitudes: I lost as in war.
Now, this happens with cryptocurrencies and that is why all that memory combined with the work and effort that I am putting into Hive have caused me that burning sensation.
Serial bad news
The latest news worldwide, mainly the fall of FTX and the blocking of BlockFi withdrawals, have dealt a new and heavy blow to cryptocurrencies and here the first victim has already been claimed, an exchange named Quantia that had recently announced an application for smartphones that would allow the purchase, sale, exchange, and investment in cryptocurrencies, in the style of others that have been operating quite successfully for a long time.
As I said on other occasions, the adoption of cryptocurrencies and the entire crypto ecosystem of investment and development of applications based on blockchain has strongly penetrated my country, as a response to the restrictions we have to acquire foreign currency as a response to high inflation, interest rates, and tax pressure that we increasingly suffer.
Retraction
This partially mitigates that wave that seemed unstoppable. Surely many will be thinking about the future of this type of investment and of course the security of their money. To make matters worse, rumors have been circulating for some time about the possible failure of Tether and its stable currency USDT, one of the favorites of Argentines to preserve the value of their savings.
Perhaps I fell short when using the word stinging, although horror seemed too strong and as I once heard, fear only serves to lose everything.
La segunda acepción de esta palabra en el diccionario de la Real Academia Española es “sentimiento causado por una pena o dolor”, sinceramente no encuentro mejor palabra para definir la noticia que leí en el día de ayer en varios medios de mi país.
La primera en este país
Una exchange, no tan importante ni activa como otras para decir la verdad, pero bastante conocida y con una buena cantidad de clientes, acaba de imponer una especie de corralito, impidiendo que sus usuarios retiren las criptomonedas o dinero fiat invertido en esa plataforma.
Corralito
La palabra corralito nos refiere a un importante pero triste evento de nuestra historia reciente cuando en la anterior debacle económica de principios de los años 2000 los bancos restringían a sus clientes el retiro del dinero depositados en sus cuentas, así como los plazos fijos y otras inversiones, solo permitían retiros parciales por sumas irrisorias. Yo mismo fui víctima de esa medida extrema tomada para evitar una corrida bancaria que creara una crisis peor a la que ya existía. Esto último es solo especulación mía ya que no sabemos que pudo pasar si la medida de acorralar los fondos de las personas no se hubiera tomado. Lo cierto es que me quedó adentro del banco del que era cliente en aquel momento, el equivalente a unos 40 mil dólares o pesos ya que aun existía la ley del uno a uno. Los recuperé, bueno al menos la mayor parte, pero en un período de tiempo muy prolongado y ya sin la ley de convertibilidad vigente, para resumirlo con una frase muy utilizada por estas latitudes: perdí como en la guerra.
Ahora pasa esto con las criptomonedas y por ello es que todo ese recuerdo aunado al trabajo y esfuerzo que estoy poniendo en Hive me han provocado esa sensación de escozor.
Malas noticias en serie
Las últimas noticias a nivel mundial, principalmente la caída de FTX y el bloqueo de retiros de BlockFi han dado un nuevo y duro golpe a las criptomonedas y aquí ya se ha cobrado la primera víctima, una exchange de nombre Quantia que recientemente había anunciado una aplicación para teléfonos inteligentes que permitiría la comprar, venta, intercambio e inversión en criptomonedas, al estilo de otras que están funcionando desde hace tiempo con bastante éxito.
Como dije en otras oportunidades, la adopción de criptomonedas y todo el ecosistema cripto de inversión y desarrollo de aplicaciones basadas en blockchain ha penetrado fuertemente en mi país, como una respuesta a las restricciones que tenemos para adquirir divisas como una respuesta a la alta inflación, las tasas de interés y presión tributaria que sufrimos en forma creciente.
Retracción
Esto hace mitigar en parte esa ola que parecía imparable. Seguramente muchos estarán pensando en que será el futuro de este tipo de inversiones y por supuesto en la seguridad de su dinero. Para colmo de males, desde hace tiempo circulan rumores sobre la posible falla de Tether y su moneda estable USDT, una de las preferidas de los argentinos para preservar el valor de sus ahorros.
Quizás me quedé corto al utilizar la palabra escozor, aunque horror me pareció demasiado fuerte y como escuché alguna vez, el miedo solo sirve para perderlo todo.
