Hello dear friends

I can't remember if I have already shared these photos that I took some time ago during my vacation in Tuscany. The images refer to a place of great interest located in Italy, as I mentioned, in the province of Lucca. This place is considered one of the most picturesque spots not only in Tuscany but in all of Italy. I'm talking about the famous Ponte della Maddalena, also known as the Devil's Bridge. It is a place of great charm and history that definitely deserves a visit if you have the opportunity to be in that region.

As you can see from the photo, it is a bridge with a very distinctive architecture, and it was built back in the 1100s to cross the Serchio River. As I mentioned, its architecture is quite unique as it is characterized by a single round arch supported by massive stone pillars. Fortunately, the bridge has undergone several restorations over the centuries, allowing it to maintain its beauty and authenticity. Today, it serves solely as a pedestrian bridge and naturally provides a panoramic view of the surrounding Tuscan countryside. It has become a highly popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all around the world.

It is called the Devil's Bridge because the bridge is famous not only for its beauty but also for a legend that is one of the most fascinating stories associated with this ancient structure.

In fact, the legend tells that during the construction of this bridge, the inhabitants of this small village faced an almost impossible challenge because they were somewhat desperate as they couldn't complete the work within a predetermined time. So, they decided to make a pact with the devil to get help in this construction, but he would request in return the soul of the first person who crossed the bridge once it was completed.

However, the people tried to deceive the devil, and instead of letting a person cross, they made a pig cross the bridge. The furious devil, being deceived, tried to destroy the bridge, but he was stopped by the villagers with a crucifix. It is not known whether this story is true or invented, but certainly, looking at these photos, I reflect on the ingenuity with which these people managed to build this important bridge.

So, if you have the opportunity to visit Tuscany, you cannot miss this tourist spot. I hope you liked my photos and also hope that you enjoyed the story of the legend. See you in my next post, wishing you all a serene and beautiful day.
