Hello to all the friends of this community.

As I had anticipated in a post I had already made a few days ago, on Sunday I took part in the national day of the Italian Historic Houses Association, an event that offered the opportunity to visit many historical sites throughout Italy completely free of charge. On this occasion, I decided to travel to the city of Thiene in the province of Vicenza, a town about 45 km away from my home, because I intended to visit the city and, above all, two interesting points of interest.

In reality, when I arrived at the location, my first move was to thoroughly explore this fascinating city, which boasts a historic and cultural center steeped in a long history and a rich artistic heritage. It is important to emphasize that one of the focal points of this city is represented by Piazza Arturo Ferrarin, where the town hall and the Civic Tower stand imposingly. I decided to take a pleasant walk along Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi, a lively street that offers numerous entertainment opportunities thanks to the presence of cozy cafes and picturesque shops lining the entire route.

While I was walking, I let myself be fascinated by the liveliness and authentic atmosphere that permeates the streets of the historic center. The facades of the historic buildings, shining under the sunlight, tell ancient stories and carry a sense of nobility and grandeur. It was a pleasure to get lost in the narrow alleyways and discover hidden corners of this city that breathes history and culture.

The first historic residence I visited was Palazzo Cornaggia, which is owned by the municipality of Thiene and has been actively valorized since its acquisition. A part of the palace has been reserved for the new library, making it accessible to the entire population.

Nearby, there was an interesting church to visit, but there was a religious function taking place, so I couldn't enter. However, since I was accompanied by students from a local institute during these visits, they took me to see the ancient icehouse that was used by the families residing in this palace.

It was the first time I saw an icehouse that could be entered and explored. In fact, this one has also been restored by the municipality over the years.

In the afternoon, I visited the famous Thiene Castle, located right in the center, which is one of the most important historical buildings in the area. It is a significant example of medieval architecture and was built in the 15th century by the Colleoni family, a noble family originally from Bergamo. Although designed as a fortress, it actually looked more like a beautiful stately residence.

Thiene Castle was declared a National Monument in 1922 and is currently owned by the Thiene family. During our visit, we were accompanied by a descendant of this prominent family. Every year, this place hosts cultural events, art exhibitions, and guided tours. Recently, it has also opened its doors for weddings and civil ceremonies.

The last part of the visit to Thiene Castle took place inside the ancient stables, which have been restored after a long renovation. Frankly, it was the first time I saw such beautiful stables, and I was very impressed by them.

I must say it was a wonderful experience. I was already familiar with this association, and I must say that the work they do to help maintain these ancient historic residences in excellent condition is highly valuable.

I hope you enjoyed my story and the photos I shared. See you in my next post, and I wish everyone a great day.
