Good evening, dear Hivers of this community called Full Deportes.

Today I will be talking to you a little bit about Real Madrid's last game before the World Cup break.

Carletto Ancelotti's Real Madrid received the visit of Cadiz, who are second to last in the Spanish League. Of the last four meetings between Madrileños and Andalusians, there have been two draws and one win each side, with the defeat of Los Merengues in 2020 at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium.

Madrid comes from two consecutive setbacks in the local tournament, the first one against Girona at home with a 1-1 draw, and the other one last Sunday in Vallecas against Rayo Vallecano, where they lost with a score of 2-3 in a match in which the Merengues never found themselves on the pitch, and were completely outplayed by the team led by Andoni Iraola. This bad results allowed FC Barcelona to climb to the top of the table, taking a two-point lead at least until the end of December when action resumes again in the main leagues of the world.

For this match, Carletto could not count again on the presence of Karim Benzema, who seems to be saving himself for the top soccer event that will start in only 10 days. Toni Kroos returned to the starting eleven after missing the last match due to an expulsion in the draw against Girona.

The Italian DT sent the following players onto the pitch: Courtois; Lucas Vázquez and Fernando Mendy as full-backs, Éder Militao and Alaba the center-back pairing; in midfield, Luka Modric, Tchouameni and Kroos; Valverde, Rodrygo and Vinicius up front.

The start of the match was what was expected in advance: Madrid took control of the game, while Cadiz waited in the back with two lines of four tightly together to defend the attacks of the Merengue team.

In the first 45 minutes of the game, the Chamartín team lacked that clarity in the last third of the field that would allow them to worry on more occasions the good Argentinean goalkeeper Ex Rosario Central, Jeremías Ledesma. The presence of Toni Kroos on the field gave the team a sense of tranquility, every well-directed pass, every change of front, every control, everything improves with him in the eleven.

The first half was a bit more disputed and rough than played, Vinicius and the continuous altercations against his opponents are already a classic every week in La Liga Santander. I am aware that the Brazilian striker receives many fouls and they will look for him with the intention of slowing him down and stopping the pace of the game, but every day I see him falling more and more into the opponents' game, sometimes I see him completely disengaged from the play and arguing with an opposing player and these are not only sporadic actions in the match, it happens many times. But well, I hope that this is part of his maturity as a player and that it passes, because I feel that he can give much more than what he has shown.

Returning to the strictly footballing side of things, Madrid struggled to open the scoring, and they found it at the end of the first half, with a wonderful cross from Toni Kroos that was headed to Brazilian defender, Éder Militao, who finished the game completely alone and unmarked to make it 1-0. It is the first time in his career that the former Porto player has scored in two consecutive matches.

In the second half, Madrid, with a little more comfort as they were winning the match, were moving the ball more clearly and found some actions at the beginning of the second half. Lucas Vázquez played a very good game making a very good partnership with Fede Valverde on the right flank, sometimes one on the inside and the other on the outside and with Luka Modric who joined in on that side to generate a convenient numerical superiority on that side. The second goal for the home team would come 20 minutes from the end, in a series of rebounds outside the area where a ball was left for the German Toni Kroos, to set him on fire and explode in the goal defended by Ledesma, thus converting a true great goal.

Madrid was far superior in the second half, after the second goal they could have scored another one in the feet of the Croatian Luka Modric, but incredibly he sent it out with all the goal at his disposal. And well, by not taking advantage of these opportunities, you give a breath of life to your rival to try and out of nowhere you find a goal through Lucas Perez, on a rebound from - strangely - a weak response from Thibaut Courtois. Madrid ended up suffering the game unnecessarily for not having killed it off minutes earlier.

In the end, Carletto's men took the 3 points to stay 2 points behind Barcelona in the fight for the title, which, as it seems, will be decided by small details until the last dates of the campaign.

Balance antes del Mundial - Balance before the World Cup

In the last two league matches prior to this one, Madrid lost the championship lead. This marks the little margin for error that FC Barcelona leaves in the league, which beyond its problems to stand out at European level, is giving it to get very good results in the local tournament and thus stay for now, with the leadership in Spain, at least until the end of next month. I think Madrid has had a very good season so far, winning the first place in the Champions League group and staying two points away from the first position in the local tournament. And if we add to that the fact that they have been without Benzema for a large part of this stretch, then we can draw a positive balance for Carlo Ancelotti's team.

With this we have reached the end of this post, thanks for stopping by. See you next time!
