Wednesday walk : Trip to Penyengat Island

How are you all hive friends, I hope you are always healthy and happy. Thank you wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay as host. Share the experience of living on Penyengat Island seeing the historical, cultural and Community life.

Penyengat island is on the Riau Archipelago, a small island separate from the City of Tanjungpinang. To get to Penyengat island use a tradisional boat or what is called a Pompong.

I arrived at Sri Bintan Tanjungpinang port from Batam Punggur port, I went out of the port door and then walked to the fishing port which is not far from Sri Bintan Tanjungpinang port.

I bought a ticket for 9000,- IDR ($0,6) to Penyengat island, the boat and passenger were ready the pompong boat and departed. The travel time was around 20 minutes and the boat arrived at Penyengat Pelantar, that time was March 3 2025 at around thirty minutes past one in the afternoon.

Welcome to Penyengat Island
A gate building welcome incoming, penyengat island is a small island with an area of less than 2 square kilometers, approximately 2 kilometers long and about 850 meters wide.

After arriving at Penyengat island, I went to the home stay to stay one night. The person who owns the home stay is Mr. Anto, coincidentally Mr.Anto has vehicle that usually takes guests around the island, the name of the vehicle is a Bentor.

A kind of Risckhaw pulled by a motor bike, I ordered the Bentor transportation service to go around penyengat island tomorrow, March 4 2024. Bentor is the only one that can be used to take visitor around the island.

Afternoon time
I spent the afternoon looking for a restaurant around the pier, eating a menu of fish with other sauce, fish caught by fishermen.

At night I took pictures of objects around the pier and the old mosque it's called the Sultan of Riau Mosque, which was build around 1803 taking architectural forms from India,Malay,and Arabic.

In the morning before touring Penyengat Island, breakfast on the homestay terrace with a special menu of rice wrapped in banana leaves called Nasi Dagang, inside which there is sucked fish it tastes quite delecious.

After breakfast go around Penyengat island using Bentor, the first thing to visit is the tomb building is a complex of graves of figures in Malay history such as Engku Putri Raja Hamidah permaisuri Sultan Mahmud Syah III, from history this island served as a dowry for him.

Tomb of Raja Ali Haji 1808-1873 was a famous writer with one of his work Gurindam 12. Then another complex the national Hero Raja Haji Fisabilillah 1725-1784, the location of the tomb complex is at the top the hill.

From the tomb complex I see a tradisional Malay building hall, located on the beach in the form of a building on stilts.

There are also historical remains of old wells to supplay the surounding Community until now,the well is quite old. The environment Al roads on Penyengat island have all been hardened and are quite good.

I Saw a motor bike cart picking up rubbish from a rubbish bin, every day the rubbish is taken by Goverment officers. Every time there is a place to visit on the side of the road there is stopping place in the form of a shelter.
