Is it too late to refine the 50/50 gender parity?

I admit we complained, protested, and went to the street demanding to be treated equally to men, but are we allowed not to generalize it, please? I mean still acknowledge the biology that naturally selected the male gender to have more strength, high testosterone to build muscle and less fear.

I always found myself in a male-dominated field throughout my career so far and I have experienced the difference in strength and fear threshold between men and women. My lazy brain didn't want to dress up for the corporate world so it opted to be a jungle girl, Tarzan's long-lost sister.

Yep! I was hoping I won't have to use too much of my brain or heels but walk around to burn calories when going out in the field and no stress to put together a killer outfit in the morning.

I don't want to imagine what goes in and out of this holes!

I remember for one research project, I had to collect soil samples, once-off and water samples weekly into 500 ml bottles from a hillslope catchment area. I was the only lady with two other guys. We would walk roughly 3km up the slope since a gully forced us to leave the car at the bottom of the hillslope.

I had to wear three pairs of gloves to make sure my future kids can know the difference between their mom's soft touch and their dad's protective touch. I even started taking jogging seriously because I always had DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) after walking up the hill and would walk around campus as if I had to balance eggs.

For my samples, I had to collect roughly 20L in total separated into 40 bottles and 40kg of soil. Ladies these are the moments I would want you to count me out in the 50/50 campaigns, I was content with a 30/70 and let those who are favoured by biology help carry the bottles and soils.

Working with flux towers

Fast forward after grad, stubborn Humbe still loved the Bush. I went for training to work at heights and we had to do a fall and arrest training which also includes rescuing your work partner.

Being the only lady for the session, I was paired with a skinny male for the rescue training and when It was my turn to rescue him he was pulling himself up too, I guess he got tired of hanging. This means in reality, if he happens to be unconscious he was going to need God's mercy and his ancestors to help him win the battle against gravity.

And the one that I can never get used to is the surprises I get when we visit our research stations. I like to claim I am a bush girl but I still scream if I find rats around our sensors. Well, I don't mind seeing it from distance minding its own business but if it falls on me I am guaranteed to scream, a male colleague will have to remove it from the box before I get anywhere near the sensor box.

The biggest surprise is the Snakes! Oh dear, and we collect our data in a nature-reserved area meaning we have to shush the snake and not kill or harm it, giving it another chance to come back. I have gotten used to one snake that I even feel ghosted when we get there and I do not find it. Its ancestor was able to wait for Eva why is this one playing hard to get with me?

Looks like it was at least being useful and feeding on those rats

Part of me doesn't like to see that snake but I also don't want it to go away to nurture my adrenalin rush. I guess it's the complexity of an x chromosome (female DNA) in me or the traits from Eva who could converse with a snake maybe?

The male colleagues are the ones to tell the snake to go away literally and a gentle poking with a slim stick. This gender, one was even giggling the day he had a snake fall on his head. He just laughed about it claiming it is harmless and non-venomous.

If it was me, I was going to need counselling before I go back to that spot again. I know someone who has a phobia of snakes, @joetunex warned me that if we see a snake walking together, I should run after him and not waste any time thinking he will deal with the snake. lol.

Anyways, don't get my plea to refine 50/50 gender parity wrong. I stand by the scientific evidence that men and women are largely similar in psychology, including in reasoning and personality traits.

So I am 100% in support of a gender-blind future where everyone is acknowledged for their individuality without being biased by gender role stereotypes. But when it comes to strength and fear threshold, I rest my case!

Thank you!

That snake is big, I can guarantee you I am leaving the site when I see such a snake at the spot I should be working. That reptile gives me creeps to the bone I can't stand the sight of it even in pictures or videos.

I hope you will still gather the courage to pack your tools before leaving the site right?😂😂

But on this site, I'm sure snakes will be the least of your worries and the big five would be your main worry.

Unless you can outrun a lion and leopard!🤔😅

Lol... This was so hilarious especially the part where you talk about the tiny guy you were paired with 😂 he got lucky, I can't stop imagining.

I hate snakes, I don't think I can ever get used to seeing them... Who says snakes are harmless? They are harmful always to me 🤣

Okay, I understand totally about your view on this gender thing but I think you left us hanging in between with everything you've said, was that your plan? 😂 I mean, men and women can't be equal when men are said to be stronger huh?

Poor guy I was supposed to pull him up and release the tension but I was the one getting pulled 😂🙈. So he had to pull himself up.

The other gender thinks snakes are harmless, they just love trouble this one, we are the same any snake is harmful to me, venomous or not.😏

Exactly you got it! The point is some things need more strength and one to have less fear. These two things are usually natural to men but for ladies, we just have to build resilience over time. I can imagine if the team was just Humbe, @merit.ahama, and @princessbusayo on site. We were going to pack our tools and go home because non of us would be willing to take that snake out. Let alone a rat😂😂. There would be chaos even having a "screaming" band.

Not to mention carrying 40kg of soil and 20L on a hillslope. We could try to carry on our heads if it was a flat surface but hillslope...yahhh!😅

Lol... I get your point totally and as funny as it sounds, it is the truth. Men are naturally like that while we're not, our will and snakes just don't connect 😏

Yeah, no connection at all! 🌺😄

Hmm, you are a strong babe oo. Seeing a snake and still fond of seeing that big snake there just to keep giving you an adrenaline rush? Omo, you won´t see me at that spot again until I am sure the snake is no more there.

But the snake that fell on your friend´s head... Haaa even if it is an harmless snake, please, I don´t want it. I will scream 😂😂
I don´t like seeing snakes because to me, all snakes are venomous and harmful.

The babe has to be strong to survive hey. But it's not that bad. Well the snake part is a bit too much but it can always be avoided just let the other gender open the box first and you watch from far.😂

I also don't like snakes, especially the thought of stepping on them. But if you can see it first then it is harmless.

Hahaha. Perhaps if I see one and I didn't run without it coming to me, I might conclude it's harmless 🤔😁

I can never be anywhere near a snake. I'll scream and cry even. Not me! I don't care if they're harmless or not.

Your job sounds adventurous and fun. I like.
Well-done Tarzan's long lost sister😂

Haha😂😂 @cheeamaka it's not that bad you will surely get used to it with time. Remember Women are resilient and I am sure if we go together just ladies we will motivate each other to remove that snake😂🌺
