Chaos Legion Soulbound Reward Cards Entry #1
Hello Everyone and Splinterlands Community,
With the release of the new soulbound reward cards, I will be starting an entry in my blog to provide an analysis and my thoughts for those monsters. I will be doing at least two monster per week which further discuss what can they contribute in the current line-up.
In my Entry #1, I will be discussing Ferox Defender and Firecaller which are the both belong to the Fire Splinter with the common rarity.
For those who are new to my post, I usually post information which is related in the Silver League Modern Format.
🛡️ Ferox Defender
Ferox Defender is a common card from the Fire Splinter which specialized in armors.
Looking at the stats, Ferox Defender provides a low melee attack from the frontline but with a high health and high armor for a 8 mana cost monster.
In terms of ability, this card provides armor to all of its allies starting from the bronze league.
Moving up to Gold league unlocks the repair ability which is pretty good support especially without any magic monster and the shatter speed gives for the MAX level provides a shatter speed ability.
With the said ability and stats, I think Ferox Defender is good support however but to fully utilize this card, it is best to have a super sneak, equal opportunity or melee mayhem is in-play so that this card can attack from the backline.
With a low attack in lower league, this card can't be use in the frontline as this card does not deal enough damage to break the opponent's frontline.
This card is also great in earthquake and weak magic ruleset as the armor serves a temporary protection against earthquake damage and magic attack.
My personal rating for this card is : 2.5/5
Combo Cards
In terms of summoner, Tarsa is the best one to use with this card for the boost of attack.

With Ferox Defender with a low attack especially in the low league needs a good boost in melee damage. With Tarsa as a summoner, she can grant this boost. |
In terms of monsters, it seems that there is no direct relation or benefit with Ferox Defender as it can repair any allied monster due to his protect ability that grants everyone with armor. In term of additional attack below are the monsters that have inspire ability:
Counter Cards
With Ferox Defender main use is about armors, below are the monsters with shatter abilities that may be counter against Ferox Defender.
Immortalis gives the shatter ability which is very dangerous.
For monsters with shatter abilities are as follows:
🔥 Firecaller
Firecaller is a range unit which do have the martyr ability.
Looking at the stats, Firecaller have a pretty nice attack with a damage of 3 to 4, a decent speed and a low health which plays an important part of this card.
In terms of ability, the Martyr ability which strengthen adjacent allies upon the death of this card is suitable for this card low health. This is best to use in the 3rd position which grants the 2nd position with reach ability and the 4th position that can attack no matter it is a melee, range or magic unit as long as the target practice ruleset is in effect.
Starting from Gold league, this card deals twice damage towards taunt units because of the fury ability. a 6 to 8 damage will be dealt to those monsters.
Additional starting form Diamond league is a bonus ability which is snare that is against flying monsters.
This card is a good one for a 5 mana cost and a good addition to the range units from the Fire Splinter.
My personal rating for this card is : 3/5
Combo Cards
In terms of summoner, Yodin Zaku and Conqueror Jacek are the best one to use with Firecaller as these two are great for range monsters.

Yodin Zaku with the range boost gives Firecaller an advantage to improves its range damage by one and with the blast effect from Yodin Zaku, Firecaller can be a dangerous card for only 5 mana cost. |
 Conqueror Jacek |
Conqueror Jacek is another summoner that is applicable to range and magic units which gives the. high damaging units piercing ability to penetrate armors and with the speed boost, Firecaller can deal an attack first before being defeated to trigger martyr ability. |
In terms of monsters, I do think that in normal situation Firecaller is good to place in the 3rd position in-case there is a snipe monster in which a melee monster with reach ability can benefit the martyr ability and the 4th position can be any monster with opportunity/sneak or a high damaging range monster. A ressurect ability is also good for Martyr ability however currently only Oshuur Constantia can able to ressurect Firecaller.
Firecaller can also be use in the other position but being in between 2 monsters is better to utilize the martyr ability further letting Firecaller as the bait.
Below are the list of possible monsters in the 2nd (which have reach) and 4th position with opportunity or sneak for melee monsters. The 4th position is also available to any range and magic unit with high damage which are not listed below.
Below enemies are the monsters that can easily kill Firecaller in order to trigger the Martyr ability. These are the monsters with Opportunity and Snipe ability
🔥 Closing Remarks
Judging the stats and abilities of Ferox Defender and Firecaller, I would say that I prefer or much often use Firecaller than Ferox Defender due to my playstyle. I won't think that Ferox Defender can be a good tank but can be use in special scenario while with Firecaller attack and martyr ability, I think this is a good addition to the fire splinter which can boost the allied stats just how the bloodlust works.

For new players, I think this is a very good opportunity to play splinterlands to mint those cards and use the NFTy lending program in which there will be an available of cards soon to be use which are from Splinterlands team.
