Hello Splinterlands Community!

Welcome to another Share your Battle Weekly Challenge but this time, I will be skipping the featured monster from the Life Splinter which is Temporal Master but instead I will be featuring a Gladiator card from the Death Splinter non other than the deadly Whistling Damon.

For those who are new to my post, I usually post information which is related in the Silver League Modern Format.

The eldest son of the next generation is named Damon Psychler, also known as Whistling Damon. He has hunted the hills of home since shortly after he learned to walk some twenty years ago. He is dark and handsome, always wearing a flowing black cloak with a wide and loose hood. Damon’s clansmen say that he is so quick that he can loose four deadly arrows before the first can be heard hitting its target. He is extraordinarily skilled at sneaking up on prey in the wild, but often chooses to make himself known simply because he seeks a challenge. He does this by whistling an ancient but familiar bone-chilling song. The eerie melody has become known as Damon’s song, and almost anyone who hears its notes is about to die by arrow.

Damon had a special contract written for his enlistment as a Gladiator in the Moxian tournaments. Instead of gold or Heliostones, he has requested his pay in many types of Khymian medicine, which he intends once his service has ended to take home, so that the Psychler clan never has to leave the safety of their hidden mountain homes.

🏹 The Stats

The Stats.png

  • Whistling Damon is a common Gladius card from the death splinter which specialize in range damage.

  • It is no doubt that Gladiator cards are very powerful because of the bloodlust ability but looking at the other stats of this card the very first thing to notice is that this card is a powerful for a 3 mana cost card.

  • Whistling Damon have a high speed and snipe ability which is very dangerous especially dealing with range and magic opponents. The snipe ability is a good combination with the bloodlust ability to bypass tank units and directly go for those range and magic units which do have low health. Each kill will trigger the bloodlust ability to powerup this monster.

  • In higher level the piercing ability and snare ability would be an additional help against armored and flying units. The attack has been boost as well.

  • This card for me is very good and easy to use in different situation.

  • Be careful to those monster with opportunity attack as Whistling Damon's health is not that high.

Combo Cards

In terms of summoner, I would say that Whistling Damon is very compatible with Thaddius Brood because of the health reduction Thaddius Brood have. A less health opponents means it is pretty good with Whistling Damon to easily kill the opponents. Just need to be aware of the other death summoner such as Mimosa Nightshade and Contessa L'ament as both of this card decrease the range attack of Whistling Damon. A weak attack won't be good to trigger bloodlust ability.

Card
Advantage
Thaddius Brood
Thaddius Brood's health reduction is very compatible with Whistling Damon in order to easily kill range and magic monsters in the backline.
Mimosa Nightshade
Contessa L'ament
Both Mimosa Nightshade and Contessa L'ament on the other hand is against Whistling Damon due to their debuffs in range damage. If an opponent is using any of this summoner, then Whistling Damon performance will be affected.

In terms of monsters, I believe that most of the monsters in the death current line-up are okay with Whistling Damon, I will only list down some monsters that are good tank in order to protect Whistling Damon in the backline.

Card
Advantage
Xenith Monk
One good ruleset that Whistling Damon can be use is the little league. Xenith Monk is a great frontline defender because of his high health, speed and healing ability make it a great tank in the little league.
Riftwing
Riftwing is also a great decoy for monsters with snipe in order to proect Whistling Damon. Besides that it can avoid range attack and deal a back fire damage. The scavenger ability would further increase the survivability of this card resulting Whistling Damon to endure in the battle.
Pelacor Deceiver
Sometimes, we are wondering if Pelacor Deceiver does really have use? The answer for me is yes. I usually use Pelacor Deceiver especially back to basic ruleset because it only cost 5 mana and high health. This is a very good choice of tank for back to basic ruleset.
Night Ghoul
The newly introduced monsters from the Rift WAatcher Edition which does have a taunt ability. This taunt protect Whistling Damon in any harm as long as it is not scattershot attack.

There are some other tanks that can be use in the frontline such as Cursed Windeku and Harklaw against physical attack.

Monster with weaken ability such as Undead Priest and Death Elemental in higher league could do a great health debuffs in order for Damon to defeat the enemies triggering the bloodlust ability.

Favorable Ruleset

There are quite a lot of ruleset that Whistling Damon is applicable however, below are the ruleset that I think the most suitable for Whistling Damon.

Ruleset
Benefits
Combat-rule_back-to-basics Small.pngBack to Basic
Whistling Damon with the range attack is great in back to basic especially when the mana capacity is low as this card only cost 3 mana which is usually paired with Weirding Warrior and Soul Strangler.
Combat-rule_close-range Small.pngClose Range
Whistling Damon benefit a lot in this ruleset as the round goes on and Whistling Damon able to boost up his stats by bloodlust. Upon reaching in the primary position, those boost up stats will not go to waste.
Combat-rule_Explosive-Weaponry Small.pngExplosive Weaponry
Whistling Damon do have a high speed and a snipe ability. With Explosive Weaponry ruleset these two fundamentals are boosted up by this ruleset dealing damages in the target's adjacent allies.
Combat-rule_little-league Small.pngLittle League
The best ruleset in my opinion since Whistling Damon cost 3 mana, he is very good in the little league ruleset which he can dominates in the battlefield. There are a lot of monsters with low health for little league which is very good to the bloodlust ability of Whistling Damon.

Take note of these ruleset that could affect Whistling Damon performance:

  • Earthquake
  • Equal Opportunity
  • Noxious Fumes
  • Return Fire
  • Reverse Speed

The first 3 ruleset is because that Damon does not have high health in which the percentage to survive is pretty low while the Return Fire and Reverse Speed is against Whistling Damon stats.

🏹 The Battle and Outcome

I guess that the format in my previous post regarding the battle is good so I would like to improve further some details using this format.

Battle

Rules of Combat

Fray Limits: Silver league, Chaos Legion Only
Modifications: Silenced Summoners, Little League
Mana Cap: 60
Playable Splinters: Water, Earth, and Death

R1.png

In this battle, Whistling Damon is pretty good choice because of the little league ruleset.

  • Summoner: Because of the silenced summoner ruleset, Thaddius Brood has no impact in the battle but this summoner is still a good combination with Whistling Damon because of the health debuff it offers.
  • 1st Position: Xenith Monk is chosen as the tank because of its high health, speed and self heal ability. I choose Xenith Monk over Crypt Beetle because Xenith Monk could survive further especially against magic attack.
  • 2nd Position: Followed by Shadow Snitch which have a reach ability and a high health in the little league category which adds damage to the frontline.
  • 3rd Position: Life Sapper is placed in the third position which have the life leech ability. Although the health is low, if there will be a snipe attack and it does not kill Life Sapper in a single hit, Life Sapper could negate the damage because of the life leech every time it attack.
  • 4th Position: Whistling Damon in this position as it have a higher health than Weirding Warrior and Soul Strangler. Moreover, once the bloodlust is triggered Damon's health is increased as well.
  • 5th Position: Soul Stranger focus on the range damage to the frontline that deals a massive of 3 range damage.
  • 6th Position: Weirding Warrior in the last position which does not only deals a 2 range damage but breaks armored opponents.

Let's do the battle analysis per round:

Round 1

R1.png

Trapp Followay presence reduced the health of all my monsters by 1.

In this round, first to attack is the highest speed which is Whistling Damon. Due to the snipe ability, he will easily defeat opponent's Life Sapper in a single hit triggering the bloodlust ability. Followed by a combination attack from Xenith Monk, Life Sapper, Soul Strangler and Weirding Warrior, the opponent's Xenith Monk has been defeated.

And then an attack from opponent's Shadow Snitch, Soul Strangler and Spirit Hoarder defeated my Xenith Monk leaving both Shadow Snitch face off in the frontline.

Round 2

R2.png

Whistling Damon got heated up in the earlier round and will do the snipe attack again this time defeating Soul Strangler and triggering another bloodlust to further increase his stats. Then a succession of attack towards Shadow Snitch and Trapp Followay resulting to defeat removing the weaken effect. Thus Spirit Hoarder as the remaining enemies at the end of the round.

Round 3

R3.png

Whistling Damon launch the final blow in the 3rd round to win the brawl. A points to the guild!

🏹 Final Thoughts

Every Gladiator cards are really powerful but I would say that considering Whistling Damon as a common card, the stats and ability alone of this card is very powerful and is very aligned with the death splinter. A great addition together with low mana cards such as Soul Strangler and Weirding Warrior which I usually use especially in the low mana matchup and back to basic.

Sorry for skipping the Temporal Master this week as I really do not use that card 99% in most of my battle.

How do you think Whistling Damon is?

!1UP Great card to review since most people don't analyse Gladius cards! At level 5 he becomes a real beast with Piercing!
