Taste of Medan / Authentic Indonesian Food
After husband's vaccination, we got to drive to a shop I had been wanting to go. The name of the shop is Taste of Medan, they sell really delicious Indonesian food. We packed our lunch as well as some dishes for other meals for keeping for next neals. This is how the entrance looks like.
.
There were so many dishes to choose from, we were basically discussing and planning right in front of the dishes while the waiter waited patiently for our call.
Let's see the Inside of the restaurant
There is no dine-in at the moment due to our Movement Control Order to stop the spread of Covid19, so we took a selfie to remember the place and for memory's sake because we do not stay nearby this restaurant.
Our Lunch
I bought myself their Medan vegetables mixed rice which comes with potatoes, French beans, cabbage curry. Just don't feel like eating meat for lunch. So so delicious..I finished the big plate of rice. OMG!
My husband got himself Lontong (vegetarian), which is an Indonesian dish of compressed rice cake which is cooked in banana leaf then cut into cubes. He said his Lontong tasted so good too, flooded with the yummy cabbage curry and other vegetables as well. You can view the photos below, before we poured in the curry and after. Those white cube-like thingy are the compressed rice-cake.
Have you tried Lontong before?
Our dinner
The dishes we packed for extra for dinner or snack are as below:
We bought:
- Chicken Berempah (spices marinated fried chicken)
- Chicken Rendang (chicken in dry curry)
- Sambal Sotong (squid in chilli paste)
- Perkedil (Deep Fried mashed potatoes)
- Stir Fry French Bean
Zoom in photos
It was finger-licking good, and we can tell all the spices or paste is made from scratch, not the pre-mix. Super yummy. Our dinner plate looked like this, one his, one mine, I did not think of calories at all, just enjoyed to the max.
Snack/Anything in between
There was an extra on top of the above extra. This is another Indonesian dish which I love love love. Indonesian love it, so do many of my Malay friends. Very simple to cook too if you want to try, just Google it up.
This is stir fry 'tempeh' with potatoes and glass noodle. Tempeh is fermented soy bean, but it does not have the usual fermented smell. Just quite plain and some nutty bean taste (if I describe correctly). Usually, it is fried till golden brown first then only stir fry with other ingredients. And must have chillies for some kick.
I ate this dishactually eat this dish on its own, the rest ate this with their rice.
