Tri-Color Buns and Siu Mai
We had something special in the morning for breakfast last Sunday. Usually, we ate half-boiled eggs but last Sunday was special. We had yummy so-called dimsum breakfast, still had the usual eggs too.
Tri-Color Milky Buns
These are called Tri-Color Milky Bun because the buns were specially made by using three different dough; the usual dough, dough with pumpkin and dough with black sesame seed paste. These were bought by my brother and sister-in-law, from a lady who sells from home ever since the lockdown. We aim to support local small home businesses as much as possible so that they have a decent income for family.
The filling was milky custard kind of taste - very yummy and delicious. The buns were so soft and fluffy. The colours of the bun were from natural ingredients from pumpkin and black sesame seed, no additional colour was added, nor any sugar added. Very creative bun maker and she advocated for healthy less sugar buns. The buns came frozen to ease management and delivery. When you want to eat them, just take out the buns from freezer without thawing and steam for 10 minutes. I especially love it with my black coffee.☕
Have you tried custard steamed bun before?
SiuMai
Besides the milky buns, my brother and sister-in-law also bought us siumai from the same seller.
I think most people love 'siu mai', a famous Chinese dumplings usually served together in dimsum group menu. These also came in frozen state to make it easier for safe storage and delivery. This was how itlooked like frozen.
Upon eating, you just steam the siumai for 10 minutes at high fire. The texture of the meat was bouncy, juicy and tasty enough, although it did not contain fat content of pork and no shrimps as well. Most 'siumai' is a mixture of lean pork and fat pork and shrimp, but this was simple ground pork with seasonings. Very well done and properly seasoned.
You can easily make 'siumai' at home but to save time, I usually bought from dimsum shop or from local home business like this.
Surprisingly with delicious cake recipes, I am very interested in cooking on weekends.
I had custard buns before but only no colour ones. Wonder does the Pumpkin and black sesame taste come out
