Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to a collective art exhibition called the 7th Salon of Children's Motifs at the Raúl Martínez gallery in the city of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. It was inaugurated last Saturday, July 11, by the Cuban Association of Artisan Artists and the Council of Visual Arts, dedicated to children as part of the summer programming.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a una exposición colectiva de arte nombrada VIIl Salón de Motivos Infantiles en la galería Raúl Martínez de la ciudad Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. Fue inaugurada el pasado sábado 11 de julio por la Asociación Cubana de Artesanos Artistas y el Consejo de las Artes Plásticas, dedicada a los niños en la programación de verano.

On my way to the art exhibition, I took some photos of the city center in the province, including some of the central park, the Catholic church, old buildings, its streets, and the Avileño boulevard.

On this occasion, artists from different creative levels come together: legendary craftspeople and aspiring artisans, celebrating childhood and sharing their works with the public. The exhibits feature more than 20 designs and will remain on display until August, as part of the province's cultural activities.

De camino a la exhibición de arte pues realice algunas tomas fotográficas del centro en la provincia, algunas del parque central, iglesia católica, edificaciones antiguas, sus calles y boulevar avileño.

En esta ocasión se juntan artistas exponentes de distintos niveles de creación: artífices legendarios, y aspirantes a artesanos, celebrando la infancia, compartiendo sus obras con el público. Muestras que conforman más de 20 diseños y permanecerá expuesta hasta agosto, como parte de las actividades culturales de la provincia.

Arriving at the exhibition, let me tell you that Ciego de Ávila features facades in warm tones—not all of them majestic, many bearing the noble wear of time—but the faces of the people, the way they greet each other from one sidewalk to the other, give it a unique color and life.

The city's movement at this time of the afternoon is not bustling, but rather calm—perfect for appreciating art.

Llegando a la exposición, les comentaré que Ciego de Ávila expresa fachadas de tonos cálidos, que no son todas majestuosas, muchas tienen el desgaste noble del tiempo, pero los rostros de la gente, su manera de saludarse de una acera a otra, le dan un color y vivir único.

El movimiento de la ciudad a estas horas de la tarde, no es el bullicio, más bien tranquilo, perfecto para apreciar el arte.

The boulevard avenue provides shade and is pleasant for a stroll among cafés, shops, and colonial buildings. It's an ideal spot to stop, take in the architectural details, and enjoy the essence of the place.

La avenida del boulevar, aporta sombra y es agradable para un paseo entre cafeterías, tiendas, y edificios coloniales. Es un espacio ideal para detenerse, observar los detalles arquitectónicos y disfrutar de la esencia del lugar.

Every year, when it opens as part of the summer programming and with a focus on children, the gallery feels just as charming—the Children's Motifs Salon.

In this eighth edition, the local branch of the Cuban Association of Artisan Artists brings together diverse ways of using natural and artificial elements to create works that, beyond being aesthetic, are useful and traditional for the people.

Chiquitica se le queda la galería cada año cuando se inaugura, como parte de la programación de verano y con la mira en los niños, el salón Motivos infantiles.

En esta edición número VIII, la filial de la Asociación Cubana de Artesanos Artistas acopla disímiles maneras de emplear elementos naturales y artificiales para conformar una obra que además de estética es útil y tradicional para el pueblo.

Upon entering the hall, the works displayed for boys and girls are a reflection of the artists' talent, vision, and commitment to serving the little ones at home.

The dollhouse diorama is absolutely beautiful, made from recycled materials—cardboard, plastic, and absorbents. From the entrance, the atmosphere radiates joy and color. There is also a wide variety of works: crocheted dolls, fantasy-inspired characters, and pieces crafted using different professional artisanal techniques. Each creation reflects the talent and dedication of its authors.

Al entrar a la sala, las obras para niños y niñas exhibidos son un reflejo del talento, la visión y el compromiso de los artistas con las labores para los más pequeños de casa.

Una total belleza la maqueta de la casa de muñecas, realizada con materiales de reciclaje, cartón, plástico y absorbentes. Desde la entrada, el ambiente transmite alegría y color. También hay gran variedad de obras: muñecos tejidos a crochet, personajes inspirados en la fantasía y elaboradas con diferentes técnicas artesanales profesionales. Cada creación refleja el talento y la dedicación de sus autores.

Various mythological characters from the Cuban children's universe—Elpidio Valdés, María Silvia, and Capitán Plim—alongside universal ones like Stitch, Pinocchio, Minions, and others, could not be missing from a gathering of crafts and daydreams like this salon, which has already found its own wings and perhaps is now in need of becoming more competitive to elevate its category to something sublime.

I absolutely loved these styles, mostly crochet, especially those made with the Amigurumi technique—they remind me of characters crafted in foami clay.

Varios personajes mitológicos, del universo infantil cubano —Elpidio Valdés, María Silvia y el Capitán Plim—, y universales como Stitch, Pinocho, Minios y otros, no podían faltar en un convite de manualidades y ensoñaciones como lo es un salón que ya tiene su propio vuelo y que quizás ya va necesitando ser competitivo para elevar a lo sublime su categoría.

Estos estilos mayormente crochet me encantaron, principalmente los de la técnica Amigurumi, se me hacen ideas a los animados en foami clay.

These metal sculpture designers express their inspiration through metallic materials, sparking reflections on the fragility and resistance of bodies. Each piece stands out for its meticulous attention to detail and its ability to convey significant emotional and conceptual weight.

Notable among them are the miscellanies and metalwork crafted by the ingenuity of Raudel Ruiz Vázquez, with his fantastical yet realistic world. He takes everyday objects—spoons, disused artifacts, tubes, and wires—to shape bicycles, motorcycles, and cyclists. In a sublime way, as if the metal itself chose to sacrifice itself for the birth of such works.

Estos diseñadores de esculturas en metal a continuación expresan su inspiración con materiales metálicos, generando reflexiones sobre fragilidad y resistencia de cuerpos. Cada pieza destaca su meticulosa atención al detalle y por su capacidad para transmitir una carga emocional y conceptual significativa.

Así destacan las misceláneas y orfebrerías del ingenio de Raudel Ruiz Vázquez con su mundo fantasioso y a la vez realista, al tomar objetos de la cotidianidad como cucharas, artefactos en desuso, tubos y alambres, para conformar bicicletas, motos y ciclistas. De una manera sublime, como si el metal decidiera sacrificarse para el nacimiento de tales obras.

The textiles and dollmaking section not only brings color and an extra touch of beauty to the salon, but also fills it with genuine children's motifs.

Traditional dresses, others with national symbols; outfits for going to the theater or to an amusement park; clothes for each day of the week and for every season, along with their respective purses and other accessories, are all part of this showcase of ingenuity and good taste.

La sección de textiles y muñequería logra no solo darle colorido y un plus de belleza al salón, sino que, además, colma de verdaderos motivos infantiles

Vestidos tradicionales, otros con los símbolos patrios; ropa para salir al teatro, o a un parque de diversiones; ropas para cada uno de los días de la semana y para todas las estaciones, con sus respectivas carteras y otros aditamentos, forman parte de este muestrario de ingenio y buen gusto.

For now, it's true that the more incentives there are, the more motivation reaches many corners and souls; although this writer wouldn't know where to place more works in this gallery, which is already becoming too small for all the children's motifs that the artisans have to offer.

What I liked most and what caught my attention on the side of the gallery are the miniature amusement park dioramas: a Ferris wheel, carousels, boats, and airplane rides, which convey the joy of fairs and collective fun spaces for children.

Por el momento, es cierto que cuanto más alicientes, la motivación llega a muchos rincones y almas; aunque este redactor no sabría dónde poner más obras en esta galería que ya se va quedando pequeña ante tantos motivos infantiles como los artesanos tienen.

El lateral de la galería lo que más me gusto y llaman mi atención son las maquetas de parques de diversiones en miniatura: una rueda de la fortuna, carruseles, embarcaciones y juegos mecánicos de avión, que transmiten la alegría de las ferias y los espacios de diversión colectiva para niños.

Overall, I really loved the exhibition, because appreciating this type of style through craftsmanship—the vibrant colors and playful shapes—in each piece is not just about a toy, but also an artistic object that connects with memory, imagination, and popular culture. The gallery conveys joy, creativity, and a tribute to childhood as a space for play, fantasy, and learning.

We hope this showcase inspires more people to explore the world of art and to appreciate the beauty of these spectacular creations!

En conjunto, la exposición me encanto mucho, pues apreciar este tipo de estilos a través de la artesanía, los colores vivos y las formas lúdicas, en cada pieza no solo es un juguete, sino también un objeto artístico que conecta con la memoria, la imaginación y la cultura popular. La galería transmite alegría, creatividad y un homenaje a la infancia como espacio de juego, fantasía y aprendizaje.
