An Encounter with the Martí-Themed Artistic Event in My City, Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. [ENG] [ESP]

Hello travelers of the @worldmappin community!

Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to the opening of a collective children's exhibition dedicated to Martiana Iconography at the "Eduardo Martínez" gallery in the city of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. This event overflows throughout the boulevard and the different artistic visual representations of the Apostle's persona, inviting us to wander, as if in joyful celebration, through each hall and street. Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a la inauguración de una exposición colectiva infantil dedicada a la Iconografía martiana en la galería "Eduardo Martínez" de la ciudad Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. Esta acción inunda todo el boulevar y las distintas visualidades en arte de la personalidad del Apóstol que nos invita a pasear, como en algarabía, por cada sala y calles. Espero les gusten las obras artísticas y disfruten el encuentro público.

To begin this routine, I learned from my brother that it was the 173rd anniversary of José Martí's birth, and in Cuba, this date is always celebrated with a profound cultural and human connection. Families, children, artists, and spectators gather to parade, creating a vibrant encounter between memory and the present.

It's truly beautiful to see how this small but meaningful tribute to the national apostle’s memory is still preserved.

Para comenzar esta rutina, me enteré por mi hermano que era el aniversario 173 del Natalicio de José Martí, y para esta fecha en Cuba, siempre se celebra una profunda conexión cultural y humana, donde familias, niños, artistas y espectadores se reúnen para desfilar, marcando un encuentro vivo entre la memoria y el presente.

Es muy bonito observar cómo aún se conserva este pedacito de detalle para la memoria del apóstol nacional.

It was a world of children enjoying this kind of event in the heart of the city, near his central statue in the park. A performance unfolds through the streets with living clay statues from the Teatro D’Morón.

This street parade attracts the entire general public along Independencia sidewalk around the Avileño boulevard.

Era un mundo de niños disfrutando este tipo de eventos en el corazón de la ciudad, cerca de su estatua central en el parque. Se presenta un espectáculo por las calles con estatuas vivientes de barro del Teatro D’Morón.

Este paseo callejero atrae a todo el público en general, por la acera Independencia alrededor del boulevar avileño.

As you can see, they are a series of human figures covered in clay, representing eras of the colonial period and Spanish life. They make their entrances along the avenue, then a theatrical gesture or a penetrating gaze that surprises and moves the audience, only to return to their state of perfect stillness.

I have always loved this kind of unique and vibrant art, where refined creative activity merges with the street rhythm of the city.

Como pueden apreciar son una serie de figuras humanas cubiertas de barro, representando épocas de la Colonia y vida española. Hacen sus entradas a lo largo de la avenida, luego un gesto teatral o una mirada penetrante que sorprende y conmueve al público. Para volver a su estado de inmovilidad perfecta.

Siempre me ha gustado este tipo de arte único y vibrante, donde la actividad creativa refinada se funde con el ritmo callejero de la ciudad.

Arriving at the moment most anticipated by parents and children: the inauguration of the provincial children's visual arts salon "Where the Palm Tree Grows," convened by the Provincial Center of Cultural Houses and the Provincial Directorate of Education, and presented by their visual arts instructors.

More than twenty works line its walls in various formats. Commendable is the use of techniques ranging from simple colored graphite to the application of materials onto cardboard.

Llegando el momento más esperado por los padres y los niños, la inauguración del Salón provincial de plástica infantil "Donde Crece la Palma" convocado por el Centro Provincial de Casas de Cultura y la Dirección Provincial de Educación, y presentado por sus instructores de artes plásticas.

Más de una veintena de obras arman sus paredes en distintos formatos. Loable es el empleo de las técnicas que van desde el simple grafito a color, hasta la colocación de materiales sobre la cartulina.

As seen in the photographs I took, even the Avileña press and television were present at this celebration for all.

The rooms highlight the winning and exhibited works, which bring together young talents from across the province of Ciego de Ávila. Drawings, paintings, and other manual techniques can be appreciated in the gallery.

These children take over, with complete grace, the art of tearing paper, gluing, and designing with cardboard. They achieve it with total elegance. With technical robustness. And they create a composition that turns out joyful.

Como se observa en las capturas fotográficas que desarrolle, hasta la prensa y televisión avileña, dijeron presente en esta fiesta de todos.

Las salas destacan las obras ganadoras y expositivas, que reúne a jóvenes talentos de toda la provincia Ciego de Ávila. Dibujos, pinturas y otras técnicas manuales pueden apreciarse en la galería.

Estos niños se apoderan, con toda gracia, del arte de rasgar papel, pegar y diseñar con cartón. Lo consiguen con total gracia. Con robustez técnica. Y crean una composición que resulta feliz.

It is heartwarming to see how the children interpret the figure of Martí. And not only through the content, in a beautiful amalgamation of his life and work. Gestures, figurations, graphic elements, and phenotypes also stand out.

In this exhibition, which shines in its beauty, we find everything from Martí's widely disseminated visage to the most genuine, graceful, and respectful interpretations. Children know how to love. And they love the apostle. Sometimes from the distant perspective of history and what is taught in class. But also from the intimate encounter with some still-living part of the author of "La Edad de Oro".

Es grato ver cómo los niños interpretan la figura martiana. Y no solo desde el contenido, en una amalgama hermosa entre su vida y obra. También sobresalen gestualidades, figuraciones, la gráfica y los fenotipos.

En esta exposición, que destaca en belleza, nos encontramos desde el rostro tan divulgado de Martí, hasta la interpretación más genuina, graciosa, respetuosa. Los infantes saben querer. Y quieren al apóstol. A veces desde la lejana perspectiva de la historia y de lo transmitido en clases. Pero, también, desde el cercano encuentro con alguna parte, aún viva, del autor de La Edad de Oro.

Upon leaving the gallery, the surrounding streets remained filled with people enjoying the occasion, alongside colorful façades, heritage buildings, and avenues that serve as a natural stage for this artistic gathering. And of course, we can’t forget the classic cars that fill the entire atmosphere.

My hometown shows itself as lively, participatory, and proud of its cultural heritage. Among balconies, squares, and people, the spirit of Martí feels close: in the education of the children, in the artistic expression, and in the participation of the people of Ciego de Ávila.

Al salir de la galería, las siguientes calles seguían repletas de personas disfrutando la fecha, además de fachadas coloridas, edificios patrimoniales y avenidas que sirven de escenario natural para este encuentro artístico. Bueno ni hablar de los autos clásicos que abundan todo el ambiente.

Mi pueblo se muestra vivo, participativo, orgulloso de su herencia cultural. Entre balcones, plazas y personas, el espíritu martiano se siente cercano: en la educación de los niños, en la expresión artística y en la participación de los avileños.

Venturing into quieter areas, I took the last images of credit banks and commercial buildings, with their well-preserved colonial façades.

Walking through my Ciego de Ávila is like wandering through an album of living memories. It’s a history that, despite the years, remains in a state of very poor economic development, with colonial structures preserved for pedestrian tourism.

Adentrándome a lugares más tranquilos, tome las últimas imágenes a bancos de créditos y comercio, con su fachadas coloniales, bien conservadas.

Andar mi Ciego de Ávila es como recorrer un álbum de recuerdos vivos. Es una historia que a pesar de los años se mantiene en desarrollo económico muy pobre, y estructuras coloniales conservadoras para el turismo de a pie.

This event was not just an inauguration, but a celebration of art as a tool for unity, a tribute to José Martí through contemporary creation, and an affirmation that culture remains a collective act in the heart of Avileño life.

Personally, I try to participate every year and cherish these children's paintings. The natural talent of these young creators is truly remarkable to appreciate.

Este evento no fue solo una inauguración, sino una celebración del arte como herramienta de unión, un homenaje a José Martí desde la creación contemporánea y una afirmación de que la cultura sigue siendo un acto colectivo en el corazón avileño.

En lo personal trato de participar todos los años y amar estas pinturas infantiles, se aprecia el talento natural de estos mini creadores.

To conclude, I'll show you the beautiful view of the Hotel Rueda 1920, a heritage jewel of Ciego de Ávila that looks phenomenal on these winter days.

To be clear, the day was an enriching, fun, and artistic experience, observing drawings, paintings, prints, and sculptures where the little ones gifted us wonderful scenes imbued with the life and ideals of Martí.

Para concluir, les mostraré la bonita vista del Hotel Rueda 1920, joya patrimonial de Ciego de Ávila que en estos días de invierno luce fenomenal.

Bueno dejar claro que la jornada fue una experiencia enriquecedora, divertida y artística, al observar dibujos, pinturas, grabados y esculturas, donde los pequeños nos regalaron maravillosas escenas, en las que están presentes la vida y el ideario martiano.
