An ordinary day on the way to work through the streets of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. [ENG] [ESP]

Hello travelers of the @worldmappin community!
Today, I have the pleasure of inviting you to explore and wander through the streets of my city, Ciego de Ávila. I’ll show you everything from its heritage styles, the coming and going of people, the avenues, and the natural surroundings of my daily routine to various central locations, colonial buildings of great value, and artistic works. In fact, this is the same path I take throughout the week on my way to work.
I hope you enjoy the public spaces and each of these landscapes and buildings. Come along with me on this wonderful tour!

I always enjoy this morning walk to work. You can see the clean streets, light traffic, and a serene atmosphere. On the side, I captured a classic red car parked under the shade of the trees. It's a very Cuban scene—vintage cars that are still on the road, filling the province with stories from the past.
Here, you can feel the daily life of Ciego de Ávila, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities. As you can see, it’s an environment with very little economic development, but with good people who want to move forward.

My city is a modern urban center, and although the historic district highlights many features of the region's typical colonial architecture, there are still several structures in the surrounding areas with unique histories and designs from the era they were built.
Take, for example, the Hotel Santiago-Habana, with its vibrant orange color. It still retains the simplicity and comfort that made it popular since its opening in 1957.

Very close by, on one side, lies ETECSA—the most important technological center for telecommunications and internet services on the island—and the Teatro Principal, known as the Avileño Coliseum. It was restored this July 26, 2025, marking 98 years of its existence. Built in 1927, it holds Grade 1 protection status and is recognized as a local monument.
Facing these three mentioned treasures, one can't help but feel a sense of respect and awe for their beauty. They are places where history seems to pause time itself.

Continuing for the next few blocks, the tour leads us to buildings with functional and modern architecture.
The scene is completed with the presence of both vintage and contemporary cars crossing the street, and people arriving at centers on electric scooters along the boulevard—reminding us that the past and the present coexist in an authentic way.

This main area is very welcoming to me. Nestled along the "Independencia" street commercial center and designed with modern style elements and heritage values, abstract and sober sculptures are placed here.
These pieces are common in the town and reflect the Avileño cultural spirit: calm, reflective, and deeply connected to the community.

Then, I cross through this central park, which transforms into a skateboarding area for kids and teenagers seeking high-adrenaline challenges.
It has also always served as a place to exchange gestures and glances among passing people, where lifelong couples meet, or where people rest while waiting for morning or afternoon transportation. Right in front stands the Cathedral of San Eugenio de la Palma.

To conclude my daily journey to work, I’d like to say that the presence of colonial buildings adorned with national symbols and wide avenues strengthens the pride I feel for my city, Ciego de Ávila.
Everything here conveys order, calm, and a strong local identity—where history, architecture, heritage, and daily life intertwine, reflecting a persistent drive to move forward despite the country’s current challenges.

Thank you so much @naturaluttom for the support!! Yes, I really like my city—it's quite peaceful and pleasant. Unfortunately, in my country overall, the current economic situation is a bit tense, but it's very beautiful for visitors, with its colonial architecture and friendly people.
