Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to the student academy group exhibition "Hidden Presence" at the Raúl Martínez gallery in the city of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. It was inaugurated last Saturday, May 16th, by the Provincial Council of Visual Arts, dedicated to interpreting and making the public think. I hope you like the artworks and enjoy each of these artistic designs.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a la exposición colectiva de estudiantes de academia "Presencia Oculta" en la galería Raúl Martínez de la ciudad Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. Fue inaugurada el pasado sábado 16 de Mayo por el Consejo Provincial de Artes Plásticas, dedicado a interpretar y hacer pensar al público. Espero les gusten las obras y disfruten cada uno de esto diseños artísticos.

When leaving my home and heading to the gallery, I took some photos of my neighborhood—its tranquility and the streets leading to the event. Everything was part of a normal day, with people going to work or returning home, old buildings, and a spectacular blue sky.

The porticoes hold a rich history behind them, particularly interesting from the colonial era. Nowadays, many of these architectural structures house handmade objects and even a space for a museum.

Al salir de mi hogar, camino a la galería, pues realice algunas tomas fotográficas de mi barrio, su tranquilidad y las calles para llegar al evento, todas de un día normal por el paso de personas hacia los trabajos o sus hogares, edificaciones antiguas y un cielo azul espectacular.

Los portales contienen una rica historia detrás, interesante en la etapa colonial, actualmente muchas de estas arquitecturas resguardan objetos de su fabricación y algún espacio para museo.

Continuing the walk, I move through downtown neighborhoods during a time of pedestrian activity, as the sun feels a bit calmer and warmer.

The rhythm of Ciego de Ávila is expressed in every step, in every lengthening shadow, in every face that passes by, leaving behind a glimmer of everyday life.

Siguiendo la caminata, me traslado por barrios céntricos, en un horario de ambiente peatonal, pues el sol se presenta un poco más calmado y cálido.

El ritmo avileño se expresa en cada paso, en cada sombra que se alarga, en cada rostro que pasa dejando atrás un destello de cotidianeidad.

Before arriving at the art students' exhibition, I stopped to have a coffee at the most iconic structure in Ciego de Ávila, the Hotel Rueda 1920.

This place is quite tranquil, with a spacious lobby, antique furniture, equipment, and decorations full of history and memories.

Antes de llegar a la exhibición de los estudiantes de arte, me detuve a tomar un café en la estructura más emblemática de Ciego de Ávila, el Hotel Rueda 1920.

Este lugar es bastante tranquilo, cuenta con un amplio lobby, muebles, equipos y adornos antiguos con historias, lleno de recuerdos.

The building maintains its architecture of recognized heritage value and stands out for its personalized service. It is a conventional urban hotel, 4-star category, which welcomes national and international guests day by day.

The interior features a wonderful view, balconies from the mini-suite rooms, and a restaurant where you can enjoy excellent food and a delicious breakfast from the work team.

La instalación mantiene su arquitectura de reconocido valor patrimonial y destaca su servicio personalizado. Es un hotel urbano convencional de categoría 4 estrellas, que acoge día por día al personal nacional y extranjero.

El interior se conforma con una vista maravillosa, balcones de las habitaciones mini-suite, restaurante, donde puedes disfrutar de una excelente comida y un sabroso desayuno por parte del equipo de trabajo.

The most beautiful part is its outdoor terrace, with wonderful decor that blends old and contemporary touches. It offers ample facilities for professional and family events, with its versatile hall and alternative venues.

They provide a varied leisure offering for all kinds of clients in one of the most central locations in the city.

Lo más bello es su terraza al aire libre, con una decoración maravillosa que conjugan con las intenciones antiguas y contemporáneas. Ofrece amplias facilidades para la realización de eventos profesionales y familiares, con su salón polivalente y locaciones alternativas.

Conforman una propuesta variada de ocio para todo tipo de clientes en uno de los sitios más céntricos de la ciudad.

Leaving the hotel, I headed to the exhibition 'Hidden Presence.' Let me tell you, this is a group show bringing together works by several graduating students from the 'Vicentina de la Torre' art academy in Ciego de Ávila.

In it, you can appreciate beautiful and daring handmade artworks that demonstrate the clear vocation and dedication of the creators. Additionally, their skills with excellent technical execution are evident, as each participating artist showcases their creative virtuosity.

Saliendo del hotel, me dirigí a la exposición "Presencia Oculta". Les comento que se trata de una sección colectiva que reúne obras de varios estudiantes de grado avileños por academia de arte 'Vicentina de la Torre'.

En ella se pueden apreciar hermosos trabajos artesanales y atrevidos, que demuestran la definida vocación y entrega de los creadores. Además, se evidencian sus destrezas de excelente realización técnica, donde cada artista participante pone de manifiesto su virtuosismo creativo.

These first works present a clash between the expressive and the everyday. The white canvases covered with red traces that appear to be blood evoke human presence, violence, and even ritual.

A total contrast with the antique piece of furniture, a painting titled 'Flujos' (Flows) featuring delicate objects, flowers, feathers, a candle, and coins—almost a religious altar—created by the imagination of Melissa Najarro.

Estas primeras obras, plantean un choque entre lo expresivo y cotidiano. Los lienzos blancos cubiertos de huellas rojas que al parecer es sangre evocan la presencia humana, violencia e incluso ritual.

Un contraste total con el mueble antiguo, cuadro nombrado 'Flujos' con objetos delicados, flores, plumas, vela y monedas, casi un altar religioso, son expuestas por la imaginación de Melissa Najarro.

The following illustrations, created using the pen-and-ink technique on aged paper, convey—together with handwritten texts—an intimate and ceremonial atmosphere, a kind of affliction upon the human body.

The use of kneeling human figures surrounded by spectral beings with animal skulls suggests an exploration of the transition between life and death, the spiritual and the earthly.

Las siguientes ilustraciones con la técnica de plumilla sobre papel envejecido, expresa junto con textos manuscritos una atmósfera íntima y ceremonia, una especie de enfermedad sobre el cuerpo humano.

El uso de figuras humanas arrodilladas rodeadas de seres espectrales con cráneos animales sugiere una exploración del tránsito entre la vida y la muerte, lo espiritual y lo terrenal.

I read some parts of the notebooks that the author showed, but since everything was very dark, I wasn't interested in continuing the reading.

The phrase 'From the grave a small pale flower sprouts...' introduces the theme of rebirth: death not as an end, but as a transformation. The sepia tone of the paper and the handwriting evoke the artisanal, the personal, almost as if they were pages from a diary or a sacred codex from past eras.

Leí algunas partes de los cuadernos que mostraba el autor, pero al ser todo muy oscuro, no me llamaba la atención continuar la lectura.

La frase “De la tumba brota una pequeña flor pálida…” introduce el tema del renacimiento: la muerte no como final, sino como transformación. El tono sepia del papel y la escritura manual evocan lo artesanal, lo personal, casi como si fueran páginas de un diario o códice sagrado de épocas pasadas.

This essence of Gabriela Expósito was more abstract and imaginative than that of her other classmates. It conveys a vibrant and dialoguing energy, where the geometric composition—with triangles, circles, or tonalities—recalls Cubism.

It is the kind of piece that invites reflection on visual dialogue and the way colors and shapes can represent mortal states without the need for realism.

Esta esencia de Gabriela Expósito, fue más abstracta e imaginativa, que la de los demás compañeros de aula. Transmiten una energía vibrante y dialogante, donde la composición geométrica, con triángulos, círculos o tonalidades, recuerdan al cubismo.

Es un tipo de piezas que invitan a reflexionar sobre el diálogo visual y la manera en que los colores y formas pueden representar estados mortales sin necesidad de realismo.

Praiseworthy is the effort of the curators and specialists of this emblematic gallery, located in the heart of the Avilés Boulevard, to achieve a collection like this one. Also commendable is the dedication of these first-year students from such a prestigious academy, who came to present a final class project before the eyes of an audience already eager for better visual art.

Loable el esfuerzo de curadores, especialistas de esta emblemática galería enclavada en el centro del bulevar avileño, por lograr un muestrario como este. Meritorio, también, el empeño de estos estudiantes de primer año de una academia tan prestigiosa, por venir a presentar un trabajo final de clases ante los ojos de un público ávido ya de un mejor arte visual.
