Portraits of an Afternoon: A Stroll Along the Boulevard of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba. Its Colonial Surroundings in a Golden Sunset. [ENG] [ESP]

Hello, travelers of the @worldmappin community!
Today, I have the pleasure of inviting you to tour and walk the boulevard avenues in my city, Ciego de Ávila, taking in its urban styles, landscapes, and the natural atmosphere of the everyday Avileño. I will also present an observational journey through different central spaces, from colonial buildings, cafeterias, shops, streets, cultural centers, and galleries, all the way until sunset.
I hope you like the photographs and enjoy each of these urban and architectural designs. Join me on this wonderful tour!

Walking the streets of my hometown during the golden hour means observing a ghost town, with no foot or vehicle traffic. From a side street, only the distant sound of a bicycle arrives, and then the relative silence returns.
Many features of the region's typical colonial architecture stand out. It's striking to see that several structures in the area still exist, each with stories and unique designs from their era of construction, yet showing maximum visible deterioration. They are unique moments for a photo… or simply for standing still and looking.

Flanked by the emblematic Teatro Principal, named the "Coliseo avileño" and built in 1927, it is total elegance and a local monument.
This area stands out for its yellow and beige coloring, ideal for taking photographs that contrast with the sunset. The adjacent streets connect to residential neighborhoods where single-story houses and interior courtyards predominate.

Arriving at the starting point of the Avileño boulevard, I'll tell you that it's a space I really enjoy walking through all week long. The first impression on the corners is a mural with the Cuban flag and the flag of the 26th of July Movement, adding a touch of identity and provincial pride.
The avenue begins among buildings with facades of pink, soft gray, green, and bright white, featuring entryways supported by columns and ornate arches.

This promenade, located along the "Independencia" street commercial center and designed with modern style elements, successfully integrates the contemporary with the old.
It showcases interesting sculptures, the Hotel Sevilla, savings banks, and small white benches that invite you to sit, chat, and observe.

The charm of the boulevard extends to its surroundings, where some of the most emblematic colonial buildings and spaces in Ciego de Ávila are concentrated, all within a short walking distance.
It is not a place to rush through; the pace is mostly slow. Conversation flows easily, and there is always someone who greets you as they pass by.

Along the promenade, there are several cafeterias, one named "Nirita," the Colonial restaurant, state-run stores, small private businesses, and public offices.
The most beautiful part of my journey is when the sun begins to descend, when the boulevard takes on an almost cinematic atmosphere, with palm trees and a golden hue in the photographs.

This turns out to be the best time to wander aimlessly, camera in hand, or simply to take in the scene.
The Avileño boulevard isn't ostentatious, but it has something special: an authentic serenity, a balance between history, everyday life, and tropical nature that is best appreciated slowly.

Although not many people are visible in the photos, a few scattered individuals do appear: someone walking calmly, another person stopped next to a building facade, or someone helping others with disabilities who are out to get some fresh air.
That reinforces the feeling of calm. It's not the hustle and bustle of a big city; it's more of an urban center where routine unfolds smoothly. This section I'm showing in the following images features an ice cream parlor or Coppelia, an Arab restaurant, and the Bandec bank of Cuba, among other small establishments.

Exploring these surroundings also allows us to discover buildings of heritage value, such as history museums, the Cabildo, and the old town hall, many of which date back to the early 20th century or even earlier centuries.
What the photos convey most is harmony. There is no visual chaos. The view is clean, the colors soft, the space open. The boulevard seems designed for walking, chatting, and looking up at the sky when it begins to paint itself orange.

The light breeze barely moves the leaves of the palms in the pots, and the heat of the day loses its intensity.
This final area stirred emotion in me upon seeing fellow dancers; it reminded me of my youth when I practiced "Break Dance," a style of street dance that I loved in my free time after school and studying. There were several friends I ran into, and to this day we still maintain our bond.

To conclude, some people are leaving their jobs in the historic center. You see relaxed steps, short conversations among friends. A couple walks slowly, and a little girl enjoys her small bicycle minutes before dark.
With the day now over, you can see the desolation of a boulevard that prefers to be at home rather than strolling the city streets. It has grown tired of the extensive blackouts and lack of resources that leave people with no desire to walk through the downtown area.

Walking through my Ciego de Ávila is like going through an album of living memories. It is a story that, despite the years, remains in a state of very poor economic development, with conservative colonial structures preserved for tourism.
To conclude, I will show you the most beautiful architecture of my little town: the Hotel Rueda from 1920, a beauty both inside and out, with its bright orange hue.
It doesn't matter how small my city is. Today, this tour along the boulevard captures more than just stories: it captures the essence of a city that beats, that evolves, and that invites you to explore it again and again.

Stunning, authentic Cuba with such photogenic architecture — fantastic street shots!
You might be living in one of the best places on earth, despite the difficulties you face because of the actions of the United States.
It's true what you're saying @russia-btc, our island in the Caribbean is very beautiful, desired by many tourists every year. It's a shame that the United States and the country's general political and economic problems have greatly damaged everyone's lives in general.
At least I sometimes go out to explore my city and capture some beauty in photographs. Greetings my friend and happy Sunday to you!! 😊☺️🙏

Its so colorful and historical, almost looks like a movie set.
I also see fewer people... is this due to the blockade?
Thank you very much @ankapolo for the support and comment. My country is currently very deteriorated and neglected; people no longer feel like going out, strolling, chatting, or having long conversations. The essence of being Cuban has been largely lost, along with the joy of the people. Between the U.S. blockade and the internal blockade imposed by the country's politicians and leaders, they have destroyed all the beauty that both tourists and locals used to enjoy.
The current situation in our country is very sad, both economically and nationally. At least I still have the HIVE blockchain to earn some extra income and get through this crisis a little.
But yes, the truth is that Cuba in general is very destroyed; about 70% of the information on social media is quite accurate, my friend.
A big greeting to you and an excellent start to the week! 😊☺️🙏
