Visiting the "Cecilia" farm near the town of Canaleta in Ciego de Ávila, Cuba: A motorcycle journey, its surroundings, and rural country life. [ENG] [ESP]

Hello, travelers of the @worldmappin community!
Today I have the pleasure of inviting you on a little countryside trip on the outskirts of Ciego de Ávila, in a small town called 'Canaleta' — specifically to the "Cecilia" farm. During this tour, I'll show you various surroundings, old warehouses, and the progress of the journey in motion, from my dad's motorcycle to arriving at a great friend's home.
I hope you like the guajiro landscape and that you enjoy each of these urban and rural designs. Join me on this wonderful journey!

To start the journey, let me tell you that nothing was planned — I just felt like going to the countryside to see some friends. It was a very boring Monday, with little movement on the streets and no electricity at home, as usual in Cuba. Perfect for going out to check out crops and animals, lol.

So we decided to get ready, get dressed, and go for a ride out to the Canaleta neighborhood, west of the city, where the "Cecilia" farm is located.
We usually go there to buy some meat for meals and to hang out with old friends, but this time we wanted to break the routine of staying home after a long day of work.

The sky, completely blue and clear, was adorned with large white clouds that foretold another typical Cuban hot day. The first few meters upon leaving the neighborhood are quiet streets that invite you to walk without rushing, to enjoy every corner, and to pause at every little detail that stirs up memories.
This is the main ring road of Ciego de Ávila, right on the central street — the very artery that runs across the entire island of Cuba and connects each one of its provinces.

Here we come across an architectural work in the city's eclectic style, symbolizing the portals — a distinctive element of the region.
My dad's motorcycle is a Jawa 350 with a sidecar, which broke the afternoon silence as we set off toward the countryside. It's not just an adventurous or sightseeing trip, but rather moments that feel important without needing to be explained.

These are already areas outside the town, more rural, more countryside. Don't think taking photos while moving is easy, lol. Many came out blurry or off-angle, but I tried to pick the best ones to present the post.
On both sides, the green of the leaves, trees, and state-owned business structures is abundant — that's how daily life feels in these places, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities. As you can see, it's an environment with very little economic development, but with good people who want to get ahead.

Just 50 meters from the farm, it's sad to see the condition of the buildings. It must be easy to imagine that, years ago, this place was full of workers, tractors coming and going, many animals, and intense agricultural activity that gave life to the entire farm.
I always enjoy going out with my dad on these trips; sometimes he would point out hidden things so that I'd have more content for the Hive community.

These moments are striking, seeing these enormous abandoned warehouses.
The metal structures still stand, defying the passage of time, while the worn-out walls show layers of peeling paint and the marks of decades of neglect. The roof has disappeared in several sections, surely from some hurricane, and now the sky occupies the place where food, tools, or supplies for the town's production were once stored.

Arriving at our meeting point, we were welcomed with a completely different atmosphere — a warmth in the people who live off the land.
Several farmers were calmly tending to one of the horses, reflecting the close relationship that exists between the guajiro and his animals, inseparable companions in daily work.

Cecilia is a place where time seems to have stood still among rural paths, livestock, horses, a windmill, and enormous warehouses that today are silent witnesses to a past full of work and prosperity.
I'm a fan of coming here, learning about the countryside and its mysteries. Every rusted piece seems to tell a story of long days of farming and effort.

The horses resting under a wide zinc roof held up by metal beams, wooden fences, and the characteristic sound of the animals. It's an organization and a love that captivates the attention of those of us who live on the outskirts.

After long hours of conversation, getting some meat for our home, and having coffee, we said our goodbyes, because the day was getting cloudy and a storm was coming.
In the surroundings we also spotted several cattle grazing freely over a vast green blanket. The livestock moved calmly, taking advantage of the abundant grass while the clouds partially covered the sun, offering a landscape typical of large cattle ranches.

More than just a simple motorcycle ride, this trip with my dad was an opportunity to discover a corner full of history at Cecilia. The old abandoned warehouses that speak of a past of intense agricultural activity, and the cattle that show the countryside is still alive.

As we were leaving, we came across a freight train and a horse-drawn cart, used by farmers to transport people and goods. It's an image that recalls the customs of old, where these means of transport are still part of daily life and keep the countryside tradition alive.
Here on the island, it's a fundamental means of transportation.

We returned with the satisfaction of having visited a place that preserves the essence of the rural world, where every dirt road, every aged structure, and every landscape tells a story that deserves to be remembered.
It was a simple journey with my dad, but filled with memories, photographs, and moments that prove the best adventures often begin with a simple motorcycle ride with family.
