Hello travelers of the @worldmappin community!

Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to explore and walk the main streets of Old Havana, from its urban styles and hidden histories to its colonial architecture and the everyday atmosphere of local life. You’ll also get a taste of the culture, traditions, and the most beautiful views from the Iberostar Grand Packard Hotel and the Paseo del Prado at sunset.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a conocer y caminar las calles principales de la habana vieja, desde sus estilos urbanísticos, historias ocultas, arquitectura colonial y ambiente natural del habanero de a pie. También conocerán un poco de cultura, tradición y las vistas más hermosas desde el Hotel Iberostar Grand Packard y Paseo del Prado al atardecer.

Espero les gusten los recorridos y disfruten cada uno de estos diseños de edificios y la primera fortaleza en Cuba. ¡Acompáñame en este maravilloso recorrido!

Whenever I start the walk, I begin at El Capitolio—it’s a must-capture photo on any trip to the capital. This incredibly important building in Cuba holds information about the island’s wars of independence and much more—enough for a dedicated post about its full history.

The truth is, for Cubans and visitors alike, it’s an undeniable icon of Havana’s landscape. I continue past the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso, with its structure deeply tied to dance and performing arts, and head to the Cathedral. This square is one of my favorites—you’ll find shops, art galleries, museums rich with heritage, and an attractive island vibe filled with dance and popular festivities.

Siempre que comienzo el paseo, salgo desde El Capitolio, sin dudas es una fotografía al seguro en mi viaje por la capital. Esta obra importantísima de Cuba, guarda información de las guerras independentistas en la isla y mucho más, que sería un post dedicado a su vivencia completa.

Lo cierto es que para cubanos y foráneos es un ícono indiscutible del paisaje habanero. Continuó por el gran teatro Alicia Alonso, con su estructura ligada a la danza y a las artes escénicas, y me dirijo a la Cathedral, esta plaza es de mis favoritas, encontrarás centros comerciales, galerías de arte, museos con gran información patrimonial y un sabor isleño atractivo entre bailes y fiestas populares.

If we're talking about the most iconic architecture in the city, there's the ETECSA Museum of Telecommunications History (Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A.). It was built in 1927 and bears certain similarities to the building on Madrid's Gran Vía. This structure symbolized the influence of American capital in Cuba's telephone business—it originally housed the "Cuban Telephone Company."

This area is located very close to the famous Chinatown (Barrio Chino) and its well-known bridge.

¡Si de arquitecturas más emblemáticas de la ciudad, hablamos! Está el Museo de Historia de las Telecomunicaciones de ETECSA (Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A.), que se construyó en 1927 y tiene ciertas similitudes con el de la Gran Vía madrileña. Esta edificación simbolizó la infuencia de los capitales norteamericanos en el negocio de la telefonía en Cuba. "Cuban Telephone Company". Esta zona se ubicada muy cerca del conocido Barrio Chino y su famoso puente.

Then I wander around the Malecón area, trying to capture some nice photos near the archaeology museum, which was closed but displayed some ships discovered in Havana Bay.

This old city is overflowing with surprises. The narrowness of its streets, the urban noise, the ethnic diversity of its people, and the architecture with clear colonial features all leave a deep impression. For these reasons, the island feels like a fragment of a city that constantly pulls us back into the past.

Luego me acerco a los alrededores por malecón, buscando captar bonitas fotos por el museo de arqueología que estaba cerrado, pero mostraba algunos barcos encontrados en el bahía habanera.

Esta ciudad antigua rebosa de sorpresas. Impresiona la estrechez de sus calles, el ruido urbano, la heterogeneidad étnica de las personas y la arquitectura con marcados rasgos coloniales. Por estas razones la isla es un fragmento de ciudad que nos remite permanentemente al pasado.

Continuing this walk, we come across the guardians of Paseo del Prado, bronze lions watching over this famous park. Their construction dates back to 1772, when our island was one of the most flourishing Spanish colonies in America.

The park features several trees and marble benches, which have witnessed love stories, meetings, partings, children's games, and even countless celebrations held at the Palace of Marriages.

Continuando esta caminata, nos encontramos con los guardianes de Paseo del Prado, unos leones hechos de bronce para custodiar este famoso parque. Su construcción data de 1772, cuando nuestra Isla era una de las colonias españolas más florecientes de América.

Presenta varios árboles y bancos de mármol, que ha sido testigo de amores, encuentros, desencuentros, juegos de niños y hasta de muchísimas celebraciones efectuadas en el Palacio de los matrimonios.

In sight of the Iberostar Grand Packard Hotel, as evening was approaching, I decided to go up to take some beautiful photographs of the gorgeous sunset from the heights.

In previous posts, I mentioned that this majestic five-star facility offers the most exclusive services and the best views, revealing the streets of the historic center, the Havana seawall, vintage cars, and an authentic perspective toward its sister hotel, the Paseo del Prado.

A la vista el Hotel Iberostar Grand Packard, como estaba llegando la tarde, decidí subir para hacer unas bonitas tomas fotográficas al hermoso atardecer desde las alturas.

En post anteriores les comentaba que esta majestuoso instalación de cinco estrellas, cuenta con los servicios más exclusivos y las mejores vistas que descubra las calles del centro histórico, el malecón habanero, coches de época y autenticidad hacia su otro hotel hermano Paseo del Prado.

Old Havana, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an open-air museum. Its cobblestone streets, wrought-iron balconies, gardens, and colorful facades reflect centuries of history.

Art is in the air on every corner. In its parks and streets, you can find everything from traditional paintings to contemporary murals that reflect daily life and Cuban passion, as well as beautiful hotels throughout its neighborhoods.

La habana vieja declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, es un museo al aire libre. Sus calles empedradas, balcones de hierro forjado, jardines y fachadas coloridas reflejan siglos de historia.

Se respira arte en cada rincón. En sus parques y calles se puede encontrar desde pinturas tradicionales hasta murales contemporáneos que reflejan la vida cotidiana y la pasión cubana, hasta hermosos hoteles por sus barrios.

On the other hand, there is the Casa del Habano. Now tell me, who doesn’t know the tobacco produced in Cuba? A rich cigar—the "COHIBA".

This home is dedicated to lovers of this indulgence. It has its own lounge for meeting friends, a bar for drinks, and the history of the first cigars produced on the island, in addition to selling various types of Cuban-made cigars.

Por otra parte, esta la casa del Habano, ahora dime quién no conoce el tabaco que se produce en Cuba? , un rico puro "COHIBA".

Este Hogar va dedicado a los amantes de este vicio, tienen su salón de reuniones entre amigos, barra para bebidas, he historia de los primeros tabacos producidos en la isla, además de la venta de varios tipos de puros de fabricación cubano.

Another emblematic place is La Fuerza, the first fortress of Havana, destroyed fifteen years later by the French pirate Jacques de Sores.

The castle became the first place to host the political, military, religious, and civil functions of an increasingly large population. Parts of these walls can still be found in many areas of the capital, dating back to the era of corsair and pirate wars during the Spanish conquests.

Otro emblemático lugar es La Fuerza, la primera fortaleza de La Habana, destruida quince años más tarde por el pirata francés Jacques de Sores.

El castillo convertido primer lugar en funciones político-militares, religiosas y civiles de una población cada vez más numerosa. De estos muros hay partes, en muchas regiones de la capital, fue cuando las guerras de corsarios y piratas en conquistas españolas.

Already tired from my trip, I passed by the legendary Hotel Nacional de Cuba, considered a symbol of history, culture, and Cuban identity. It was declared a National Monument and awarded the status of Memory of the World at the National Level by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Located on the waterfront in the Vedado neighborhood, it offers impressive views of the sea and the city. It is also framed by palm trees and peacocks, as well as well-maintained gardens with a vibrant, lush green.

Ya cansado de mi viaje, pase por el legendario Hotel Nacional de Cuba es considerado un símbolo de la historia, la cultura y la cubanía. Fue declarado Monumento Nacional y galardonado con el estatus de Memoria del Mundo a nivel Nacional otorgado por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (UNESCO).

Ubicado en primera línea del barrio Vedado, pues ofrece impresionantes vistas al mar y a la ciudad. También franqueada por palmeras y pavos reales, además de jardines bien cuidados con un verde súper vivo.

To conclude, I decided to end my day at the Hotel Paseo del Prado, ordering some simple snacks and a few beers with my dad while watching the wonderful sunset over the bay from the viewpoint.

The new five-star tourist facility in the Cuban capital, designed to resemble a refined ship, is very popular with both locals and international tourists.

Para concluir, decidí finalizar mi día desde el Hotel Paseo del Prado, pidiendo algunas comidas sencillas para picar y unas cervezas junto a mi papá, observando el maravilloso atardecer de la bahía desde el mirador.

La nueva instalación turística de cinco estrellas en la capital cubana, que simula un barco refinado, es muy visitada por lugareños y turismo internacional.
