Today I have the pleasure of inviting you to the opening of the 34th Edition of the Book Fair in my city. This is a national event that takes place once a year throughout the country. Throughout the week, multiple activities and artistic expressions will be presented, including the children's pavilion "Paper Treasure" and the artistic exhibition Regional Landscape Salon, at the Raúl Martínez gallery in the province of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba.

Hoy tengo el placer de invitarlos a la inauguración de la XXXIV Edición de la Feria del libro en mi ciudad. Se trata de un evento nacional que se efectúa una vez al año en todo el país. En la semana se presentaran múltiples actividades y expresiones artísticas entre algunas el pabellón infantil "Tesoro de Papel" y la exposición artística Salón Regional de Paisajes, en la galería Raúl Martínez de la provincia Ciego de Ávila, Cuba.

On my way to the art exhibitions and the different literature tents, I took some photos capturing the highlights of the book fair in the province—its central park and its small streets with that distinctive Avileño charm.

National and provincial authorities decided to hold the event despite the economic context, given its relevance as a cultural gathering that travels through the main cities of the Island.

De camino a las exhibiciones de arte y las distintas carpas de literatura, pues realice algunas tomas fotográficas a los aciertos de la fiesta del libro en la provincia, su parque central y sus calles pequeñas con un encanto avileño.

Las autoridades nacionales y provinciales decidieron sostener el evento pese al contexto económico, dada su relevancia como cita cultural que recorre las principales ciudades de la Isla.

The event maintained its commercial area at Martí Park and its main presentation space at Ciego del Ánima square, in front of the 12-Storey building.

Readers of all ages approached the shelves in search of novels, children's books, posters, historical works, and other titles. Entire families, young people, and children roamed the spaces dedicated to reading, while vendors and cultural promoters turned every table into a small invitation to discover new adventures.

La jornada conservó su área comercial en el Parque Martí y el espacio principal de presentaciones en la plaza Ciego del Ánima, frente al edificio del 12 Plantas.

Lectores de diferentes edades se acercaban a los estantes en busca de novelas, textos infantiles, afiches, obras de historia y otros títulos. Familias enteras, jóvenes y niños recorren los espacios dedicados a la lectura, mientras los vendedores y promotores culturales convierten cada mesa en una pequeña invitación a descubrir nuevas aventuras.

Among the posters that were for sale, I saw some from Harry Potter—I've been a huge fan of the saga since I was a kid—and they had available ones from The Philosopher's Stone, Order of the Phoenix, and The Deathly Hallows. I bought the first one for my bedroom, where it all began.

The Book Fair is not just a place to buy or exchange publications. Above all, it is a meeting point for visitors.

Entre los afiches que estaban a la venta, vi los de Harry Potter, pues soy muy fans de la saga desde pequeño, y habían disponibles de La Piedra Filosofal, Orden del Fénix y Las Reliquias de la muerte, comprando para mi dormitorio la primera parte, donde todo comenzó.

La Feria del Libro no es solamente un lugar para comprar o intercambiar publicaciones. Es, sobre todo, un punto de encuentro entre visitantes.

Continuing with the cultural spaces, one of the most striking elements of the fair was the picturesque gallery set up on the Avileño boulevard, where a group exhibition called the Regional Landscape Salon was presented. The paintings on display show calm seas, quiet cities, nature, birds, Cuban countryside, and natural corners full of serenity.

The exhibition you will see is made up of more than 17 landscapes and will remain on display throughout the month of September as part of the cultural activities in the province.

Continuando con los espacios culturales, uno de los elementos más llamativos de la feria fue la galería pintoresca instalada en el boulevar avileño, donde se presentó una exposición colectiva Salón Regional de Paisajes. Las pinturas exhibidas muestran mares tranquilos, ciudades silenciosas, naturaleza, aves, campos cubanos y rincones naturales llenos de serenidad.

La muestra que observarán está conformada por más de 17 paisajes y permanecerá expuesta todo el mes de septiembre como parte de las actividades culturales en la provincia.

Artists from different backgrounds submitted their creations to share them with fellow contestants and the public, and thereby gain learning from the most advanced practitioners of the competition.

Traditional landscapes were exhibited, painted from the unique perspective of emblematic artists—both established and paradigmatic figures. Techniques used included enamel with oil, textiles, recycled metal on wood, sublimation, among others.

Artistas de distintos orígenes entregaron sus creaciones para compartirlas con los demás concursantes, públicos y, por ende, ganar en aprendizajes de lo más evolucionados del certamen.

Se exhibieron paisajes tradicionales pintados desde la singularidad de emblemáticos cultores, los consagrados y paradigmáticos, se utilizaron técnicas de esmalte con óleo, tejidos, metal reciclado en madera, sublimación entre otras.

Precisely, this group of creators, with their landscape paintings, made possible the branching out of the genre—not only filtered through the subjectivity of each one of them, but also through re-visitations to the classics of a manifestation of life that never expires: nature; and from it, approaches and appreciations that evolve into landscapes.

Some pieces invite you to recognize familiar places; others propose a more intimate, abstract, or imaginative vision of the territory by the artists.

Precisamente, este grupo de creadores, con sus pinturas paisajísticas, hicieron posible la ramificación del género, no solo tamizada por la subjetividad de cada uno de ellos, sino, además, re-visitaciones a los clásicos de una manifestación de la vida que no caduca: la naturaleza; y, de ella, enfoques, apreciaciones que evolucionan a paisajes.

Algunas piezas invitan a reconocer lugares familiares; otras proponen una visión más íntima, abstracta o imaginativa del territorio por los artistas.

There was no shortage of new additions to the competition—that is, techno-formal explorations and inquiries through the lens—but the results are still insufficient; there is still a long way to go, because everyone's emotions can become art, and that is not abundant, because talent, even if it is exceptional, also requires cultivation: study, reading, constant self-improvement, ceasing to be single-themed, not adopting mimicry as a "discourse."

Even though the exhibition demonstrates the technical mastery achieved in the artistic expressions, it would be timely to emphasize that, without diminishing the importance of craft, both the selection and the treatment of the idea—the concept of interest for the work—are of vital importance.

No faltaron nuevas incorporaciones al certamen, o sea, búsquedas tecnoformales e indagaciones a través del lente, pero aún son insuficientes los resultados; mucho falta, porque las emociones de cada quien pueden convertirse en arte y eso no abunda, porque el talento, aunque sea excepcionalidad, también requiere de su cultivo: estudio, lecturas, constante superación, dejar de ser monotemáticos, no asumir el mimetismo como “discurso”.

Aun cuando la exposición demuestra el dominio técnico alcanzado en las expresiones artísticas, sería oportuno enfatizar que, sin restarle importancia al oficio, es de vital importancia tanto la selección como el tratamiento a la idea, concepto de interés para la obra.

This stroll through the Book Fair and the Regional Landscape Art Salon in Ciego de Ávila leaves a clear impression: culture does not remain enclosed between the pages of a book or within the walls of a gallery. It goes out to meet people, occupies squares, galleries, and public spaces, awakens memories, and opens new ways of observing the world through landscapes.

Este paseo por la Feria del Libro y el Salón Regional de Paisajes de Arte en Ciego de Ávila deja una impresión clara: la cultura no permanece encerrada entre las páginas de un libro ni dentro de las paredes de una galería.
