How are you my friend?

Lately, maintaining my relationship with people has been tough. It’s either one of my friend is accusing me of being bad or the other one is glaring at me for not calling or keeping tabs on him or her. It’s been super crazy and apologizing to people these past few weeks has become my forte. “I am sorry, I’ll do better” and “Please forgive me, I’m only human” are my most used phrases lately and it gets worse every other day.

Yesterday was an outliner as a friend called and yelled at me for forgetting her birthday that she invited me to. Apparently, she got engaged that same day. It was terrible as she said so many hurtful things to me which made me sad. I was sad because we’d come a long way and I had never forgotten her birthday but I got super busy and I didn’t know how I forgot.

I’m at this point in my life where I am trying to balance my 9-5 job, my Hive activities and so many other things. It’s been super stressful because I don’t even know when it’s 12 midnight anymore Lol, 24 hours ain’t enough for me again hehehehe.

My inbox has been filled with messages that I am yet to read and reply as well as calls that I am yet to return. I know everyone has time but I have just little time and it’s not enough to go around everybody in my life.

Johnny Drille’s song has been on repeat since yesterday and every single time the lyrics hit me I wish my friends would understand and cut me some slack.

How Are You My Friend was released in 2022 and it has been a major hit ever since. The song is written in Nigerian Pidgin but the excerpt below is translated into standard English.

Padi no vex for me (My pal, don't be angry with me.)
Say I never call you since (That I have not called you since.)
But I hope that you are well
I hope your market sell
Everyday I dey pray for you Every day I pray for you.)
Make baba God bless you (That God should bless you.)
I never forget you (I have not forgotten you.)
How I go forget you? (How will I forget you?)
source

I may not constantly reach out to my friends but they are always in my heart. I wish them well and I am always rooting for them.

Most times it is not easy to make people understand that not being in the picture doesn’t mean you don’t care, but trust we humans to choose and hold on to only the bad things that people do and suddenly develop amnesia as we don’t remember the good things that they have done for us.

How Are You My Friend is a friendship song that celebrates friends from all over the world and a reaffirmation of our love for our friends.

Life keeps happening every day, and the hours you spend talking to your friend begins to reduce but that doesn’t mean your love for this friend has dropped.

How Are You My Friend inspires me a lot as it makes friendship beautiful against all odds.

How are you, my friend?
How do you do my friend?
I know sometimes e be like say (I know sometimes it is like)
Nobody send you (Nobody cares/gives a damn about you)
That one na lie (It is a lie.)
I dey for you my friend (I am available for you my friend.)
source

The use of such powerful words repeatedly in the song emphasizes the singer's strong love for his friend and the reassurance that he will always be there through thick and thin for his friend.

Most times when I have the time, I take it upon myself to send this song to most of my friends that I haven’t spoken to, or other times I make a video of me blowing kisses to them and trust the lyrics of the song to convey all the messages of your heart.

Checking up on our friends is very important but people shouldn’t draw conclusions easily.

While I am still trying to balance my life and every other thing in between, I would be happy if my friends would be a little more understanding.

Looking for a heartwarming song to listen to? I recommend How Are You My Friend.

Hello, @ibbtammy, very good analysis of the song (very beautiful too, I didn't know it). I have experienced situations similar to the ones you are experiencing, that's why I understand you. Look... even the birthday thing. I juggled spending a Sunday to congratulate a dear friend on her birthday and she told me: It's next Sunday.
And when I stopped by her house on the Wednesday after the following Sunday she was upset with me. Her greeting was: Wow, I waited for you this Sunday, for my birthday.

How can I make her understand that I forgot because it was a very complicated week for me? And that forgetting is not a lack of interest, it is only forgotten! Terrible.

Thanks for sharing. Pay attention to your health, which will suffer if you don't allow yourself time to rest. Not everything is work and the cemetery is full of "essential assumptions"

Ib, these things happen and sometimes we can't control them. All we need is a little relaxation, a little more effort and before we know it, we are back to normal. I'm used to your mood swings, so when they start, I know how to reply 😄

How are you my friend has been and still a national anthem 🤸

Most times, our friends don't understand that life is hard at our end and we are trying to balance it. Although, there are people who will still check up on you even if they had a busy and stressful day but others are not created like that. If our friends could understand us, there will be a better friendship between us instead of nagging about who is not reaching out. Thank you for the recommendation, Ibb
