My father

I finally get to join the Memoir Monday initiative, if you are wondering what this initiative is worry no more as I’ve got you.

Memoir Monday is an initiative founded by @ericvancewalton, this initiative was founded for Hiveans to create their own blockchain-based memoir for future generations to read and so far it’s been amazing.

What is one of your favorite memories of your father?

I have written about my mother a couple of times here but I haven’t written about my dad.

IMG_8071.jpeg

My dad is the best dad in the world, the one whom God specifically handed over me and my siblings to. Looking at my life now, I don’t think my life would have remained the same without him in the picture and every day I thank the Lord for keeping him alive.

When I see or hear people say they are scared of their fathers I can’t relate as my dad is very playful and he is his the comedian of my family.

While my dad can be an angel he can also be a disciplinarian and sometimes you’d be forced to question if he is your father or not. My dad was in the military so technically he trained us like soldiers😂😂 due to the nature of his job if he opens his mouth to shout at you, you are finished, if we were in a cartoon show his voice could literally bring down a building and you the victim would behave like someone that was electrocuted😂😂

IMG_5122.jpeg

I am grateful for all his disciplinary tactics as it’s paying off now, his rules and scolding from years back have constantly kept me in check. I don’t stay with my dad anymore but there are some things I still wouldn’t do at my age despite me being free to live my life the way I want.

My dad was so protective of us that it was so hard for us to leave the house and so hard to hang out with friends as many teenagers of our age did. My dad would just want you to be at home, doing nothing for him just to answer “present” whenever your name was called. Back then, going out meant giving a descriptive essay of where you were going and God help you if you came back late.

While he played the role of a disciplinarian he also played the role of a loving father and he did it so well that it’s safe to say that I am my siblings were raised with love. My dad was saddled with the responsibility of being both the mother figure and the father figure and he did it so well.

IMG_5102.jpeg

My father loves me and my siblings dearly and he can do anything for us.
My dad can look at you and say “Ohh I born well” meaning I gave birth to a beautiful child and he’d gush over your beauty until you start begging him to stop and if you guys are in public you are finished as he wouldn’t mind including a third party to the conversation hehehehehe that’s my old man for you.

Half of the things I know today I was taught by my father, from puberty to sex education, to career and life lessons.

My dad hates to see us injured, one scratch on any part of your body annoys the hell out of him, he’d look at the scratch over and again and hiss like a hundred times, he would move from blaming you for not being careful to shouting at you and finally attending to your injury and making you feel better.

IMG_3539.jpeg

Back then the nature of my dad’s job always made him travel a lot but that didn’t make him inactive in our lives, he was always active, knowing our every move and listening to our every complaint and story.

There’s a very funny story my aunt always used to tease my father. My parents gave birth to four children, the three girls were born in September and the boy in August, so my aunt would always say that my dad was always traveling and would mostly come back in January and the month of January was when he and my mum made babies😂😂 so January was the making of the baby stage, so If you count from January to September that’s 9 months and she’d go on to say that the one time he came earlier than January that is December my brother was born in August😂😂 such shocking revelation, so whenever people question why I and my two sisters were born in September we simply recount the story to them and my dad doesn’t hear the last of my aunt because of this story😂😂

I have so many fond memories of my father but worthy of note was when I had a scholarship in school, this scholarship came in at the right time as my family was going through some financial crises, the look on my father’s face when I broke the news to him was priceless and all he could say was “Thank you my daughter”, but his eyes said a lot.

If I have the opportunity to pick my father, I’ll pick my old man over and over again without batting an eye lash😃

I may not have a mum to root for me at my wedding, or to have the mother of the day honors but I do have an energetic and loving father to walk me down the aisles with love and excitement, to me that’s one of the most important gifts God has given to me.

All images are mine except otherwise stated.

I guess we all have super dads who always make sure that we are well taken care of and out of harm.
Call them our heroes and you won't be wrong.

The staying at home not doing anything but just to answer present got me, lol. How come most of our dads then behaved that way.
And the descriptive essay just to go out is another one. You will spend up to a week thinking of how to present your permission appeal before him. Infact you will plead with all the gods in the land to find him in a good mood that day so he can accept, if not it will be adjourned to God knows when, lol lol.
And if you try to play a fast one on him, you'll know that he played all these tricks before you were born, hehehe.

May God continue to keep your dad in health and life.

Yeah! My dad did that too. He just wanted me most especially to be around when he was home. My name was the first name he called immediately he got home.
Amen🙏🏽

Lol same here, he calls my name first because he knows I am the most stubborn one and might likely want to pull a fast one on him😂😂

Lol and when he accepts just pray the devil doesn’t manifest and scatter everything or else you’ll have to start all over again😂😂😂

Thank God for our fathers o😂😂😂

Your father sounds like a wonderful man. My father was a disciplinarian too and I'm grateful he was. I feel for many of the kids growing up today who have no boundaries, never hearing the word "no" from their parents. Life will be exponentially more difficult for them once they get a taste of the real world. I really appreciate you taking part in Memoir Monday!

Your dad na indeed funny ma, hehe
Praising the beauty of his children is quite rare among many of our Naija dads who are preoccupied with work and hardly recognise even the look of the children
I can imagine the affection that creates in your minds

I love it when I read about Dads like this, it makes me have have ideas on how to become a good father.

It's normal with dads not to want their children go out, especially girls. We are still making research on the reasons 😂

Your father is a good father, and I am proud of him. Most people wouldn't say much about their fathers because of the weak relationship between them but yours seems to be different.

I came across this post on Dreemport

aw, this was such a special post😍The love and admiration that you have for your father leaps off the page! How wonderful that he has always been such a strong presence in your life. That is so funny that you and your siblings were all born Aug/Sep... me and mine were all Jul/Aug hahaha.

My dad was in the military so technically he trained us like soldiers😂😂 due to the nature of his job if he opens his mouth to shout at you, you are finished, if we were in a cartoon show his voice could literally bring down a building and you the victim would behave like someone that was electrocuted😂😂

THIS 👆 cracked me up!!! !LOLZ seriously, I could not help picturing it the way you described it hehe.

And I had no idea that this initiative existed on Hive. I'll go and check it out. Thank you for sharing this warm and amusing post about your dad, @ibbtammy :-) I loved it!!! !LUV !ALIVE
