The not so exciting side of adulthood

So many years ago my little self was willing to jump on the adult train without warning, adulthood was seen as the perfect escape from constant scolding and rules, adulthood then to me was synonymous with freedom and the best life anyone could ever think of but at this point in my life, I think I’d love to go back to being a baby, hehehe just kidding.

This week, we want you to help us understand why you think adulthood is hard, what are the challenges you face as an adult and what do you think would make it a lot more better for you.

I totally agree with the popular saying that being an adult is not an easy job because if we look at it from different angles it’s still not an easy job.

As a child, you had your parents to fix your mess for you but suddenly you are an adult and you have to do the whole fixing yourself, If you decide not to fix your mess you just have to deal with the consequences yourself and this can be scary most times.

The older you get the more you begin to understand that you are solely responsible for yourself and that the decisions you make matters a lot, these decisions have the right to make or mar you.

One thing that makes adulthood difficult for me is the decision-making aspect, the fact that I call the shot in my life can be quite terrifying most times. Most times, I find it really hard to make decisions, especially those life-changing ones. I hate the fact that the power to make it or fail in life is in my own hands. Can’t I just blame my dad when things go south?😂

Furthermore, another aspect of adulthood that terrifies me is the pressure and expectations that seem to be rubber stamped to the term ‘Adults’, I mean we are adults, not some sort of robots or superheroes. I will share a short story with you all to buttress my point.

Some months ago, While I was at my lowest, I was facing so many challenges so I went under the radar for some weeks as I wasn’t just feeling good and I didn’t want to bother anyone with my issues. After getting better and finally switching my social life back on, the first call I received was from a distant relative who was mad at me for not coming through for her when she needed me.

I didn’t even get a chance to process all the hurtful things this relative of mine said to me when I was hit with two separate messages from a friend getting married soon and a colleague, each sternly stating why their personal and work obligations were more important without bothering to know why I went under the radar for that period of time. Everyone has an expectation of you that they feel must be met without them being bothered about your struggles or even knowing about them in the first place and this sucks big time.

As you hit adulthood and you begin to attain certain heights, your responsibilities increase, you lose the whole preferential treatment you usually got from your parents, and roles change as you are saddled with the responsibility of taking care of them and this isn’t an easy job but it’s the most fulfilling job on earth.

Adulthood would be a lot better if I am able to make decisions without overthinking them or consulting people. Adulthood would also be much better when I begin to not feel pressured into doing things for people.

In conclusion, I’d say that life moves faster than you can ever imagine, with each passing day it gives you no space for indecision, negativity, or fear. You’d just have to take life on as an adult by first conquering your own childhood nature/version.

It’s actually very scary
Sometimes you just wish the world would stop so you can catch your breath especially if you do something wrong and you need to take responsibilities for your actions.
It is well

Of course, whenever we hear adulthood we hear freedom but it’s rather unfortunate that we don’t know all the behind the scenes with adulthood.
We are sorry you eventually got to your lowest. It’s actually alright to be at your lowest but what isn’t is choosing to stay there so we are happy you are back!
