The Note, The Voice

Hello members of cinnamon community, first time here.

It was a day to my birthday and my boyfriend Fred had been acting all sneaky and weird, he’s been nervous for days now as I could see it boldly written on his face.

I concluded that he was going to propose to me on my birthday, I called my best friend and told her all about my hunch and she also concurred and asked we go to the salon to change my nail polish and style my hair, in her words “bestie you can’t be looking like a homeless girl in your engagement picture and videos”. I totally agreed with her as I didn’t want to say yes to my Prince Charming not looking my best.

I picked the new coffee pack I bought; surprisingly, the coffee was super great. To satisfy my curiosity I decided to check the various ingredients used to produce it and that was when I saw it.
A neatly folded paper resting at the base of the coffee bag, at first glance I thought it was a manual but something about the font of the manual was different.

I opened the paper and discovered it was the handwriting of someone who wrote so fast out of fear. Inscribed on the note was “Help me! I have been stuck in this factory for a decade!”
At first, I thought the company was just being silly with its marketing strategies, so I ignored the note.

On going to wash my cup I sighted the note and this time it felt like I could hear it screaming my name. My FBI skills kicked in, and I started over-analyzing everything and it dawned on me that it might be deeper than I imagined.
I drove so fast to the police station. On getting there I was greeted by a grumpy middle-aged man.

“Good morning sir”, I greeted.
“Good morning Miss”, What can the police do for you?”

I mentally rolled my eyes as the words he said didn’t match his facial expression.
I handed the note to him and explained everything to him. Immediately he looked at the note he laughed, and I was taken aback for a minute.

After laughing he said the most ridiculous thing.

“Miss, is this some kind of a joke? You come in here to prank a police officer?”

I was astonished, I stood there spellbound for a few minutes.
His outburst drew other police officers to the scene.
I was alarmed, I started explaining everything to them but they never listened, they thought I was a prankster, one said I was crazy and was under the influence. I was so ashamed of myself, I begged the policeman to give me back the note and stormed out of the office angry and ashamed, my heroic spirit dead already.
I went back home really angry.

I was running late for my salon appointment, so I quickly headed to the bathroom, while in a hurry my purse fell from my hands and there, I saw the note again, I was about to shred it before I heard the voice again, the more I stared at the paper the more I could hear the voice and I couldn’t ignore it anymore.

I stood up and went back to the disposed coffee bag to look for the location of the coffee factory, The moment I got it, I took my car keys and headed off to the factory.

Looking at the factory it was so big and looked creepy, now the note began to make sense as anyone could be held hostage in there.

I immediately texted my partner about what I was about to do, I left the location of the factory as well, good thing he didn’t respond on time, or else the mission would have been impossible.

While I was snooping around, looking for the best way to gain access to the factory I was captured by two strong hands, blindfolded, and carried away, I kept on screaming but no one came.

They dropped me down, the blindfolds removed and I was greeted by a very pitiful sight, Present in the hall were hundreds of weak and sad people, At that point, it did hit me that indeed these people were held hostage and one of them might have been the one to slip that note in my coffee bag.

I was so sad, so sad that I too was going to be held here for a decade or more, I wouldn’t be home to celebrate my birthday, my family, my engagement, and my partner, and the thought of Fred broke my heart, he was going to stop waiting for me and eventually get married to someone else. I started sobbing silently and did exactly what I was told by my captors.

I was assigned a role and it wasn’t an easy one and I cried as I carried out my duty.

Just when I was about to give up, I heard and saw people running from one place to another, especially the leaders, the hall was chaotic.
Before we knew it, we heard the sound of the siren, it was the police, the freaking police were there to save me and everyone, I smiled, I smiled because the policemen finally knew that I wasn’t a crazy bitch who came to prank them, while I was still standing close to the door I saw a familiar face, I moved closer to look at the face and Lo and behold it was my partner, Fred, it was the man that I love, he saw my text and came with the police to save me. On the spot my love and admiration grew for my knight in shining armor and I knew for a fact that I wanted to do forever with this man.

Sadly, that reaction at the station sounds like a pretty normal one, which sometimes leaves civilians to take matters upon themselves. That was an easy escape and it's great that everything went in your favour and that you did not have to endure a horrible ordeal as the other people you saw in captivity.
Thanks for getting creative with this week's prompt, and welcome to the community:)

Wow!
The people came to their senses on time if not, only God knows what would have happened between you and your man. Lol.

Didn't he propose on the crime spot?

Wow!! Guess you are the true hero in this story, if you didn't take the bold step to visit the factory, those criminals wouldn't have been exposed and who knows how many more people they would have taken? Kudus to your man, he is indeed someone to lean on.

So much suspence in this tale, keeping me on the edge of my seat. Your writing serves to shine a light on the topic of slavery, which is still very real in this day in age. Thanks my friend.
