For me, the greatest uncertainty that we Cubans are experiencing today.

Hello, friends who are reading this. These days I've felt a lot of helplessness and also a bit of despair. I think that feeling helpless at times is natural for human beings, but with the frequency with which we Cubans feel it, it becomes obsessive. Our days are becoming increasingly difficult, amidst so much uncertainty!
These days, one of the problems that most affects the Cuban population is the state of the national power grid and its systematic outages; closely related to this is access to the only mobile network in Cuba (CUBACEL); it's truly worrying. Baffling, I'd say!

Sometimes I ask myself: how can we endure this situation we're living through for so long? Most Cubans spend between 24 and 40 hours without electricity in their homes, something so essential for cooking and preserving food, for resting, and for living. In general, many services are limited by this major problem. This affects everyone's well-being, but most significantly that of children, the elderly, and the sick.
Today, times are different than they were 40 years ago; the use of electricity has become indispensable for almost all existing services. In many homes, cooking practices that were uncommon years ago have had to be resumed, such as cooking with firewood or charcoal, regardless of where they live, the conditions of their home, or how many people are affected by the smoke from these daily practices.
Isn't the well-being and security of the people a right? Living with the minimum and essential conditions is not a luxury; on the contrary, it is a right.

Something that bothers everyone is related to the use of mobile phones. We are in the 21st century, and for many, mobile phone and internet use has become as essential as breathing, for numerous reasons: for daily communication with family and friends; Cuban families are scattered around the world; we all have a need to communicate with them daily.
It is truly disheartening to live in the heart of a city or anywhere else in the country and have a limited, almost nonexistent, mobile phone and data connection. What are the causes? From my perspective, there are several: prolonged power outages, a lack of backup power for the devices that provide this service, and poor management by the company in charge (the only one that exists) and its employees, who provide increasingly lower quality service. From other perspectives: The Blockade is to blame. If you're Cuban and you're reading this, you know what I'm talking about. Nothing, as a result we live isolated and misinformed, partially or totally.

To you who are reading this, my dear friend! Imagine for a moment: living in a multi-family building, with more than 5 floors and sometimes more than 20, with more than 18 hours of power outages daily. How does this affect you? Without a doubt, it affects the mobility of the elevators and, therefore, people's ability to meet basic needs; it makes it impossible to pump water. Drinking water; to combat the unbearable heat that torments us during our nights; entertainment for the youngest and oldest members of the household; and to eat decently, with a warm plate of food on the table.
If we add to all this the daily disconnection from the internet and mobile coverage, it leads to collapse, lack of control, alienation and the abyss. Sometimes I've looked at the horizon, at my city in darkness, and I've imagined the child, the elderly person, the pregnant woman, the sick person, and also the adult who lives this reality and this oppressive heat, and I've felt the need to shout: “You resist, resist all those who don't live this reality, resist those who speak from their comfort and are incapable of doing anything in accordance with this people and this land.”

But when this happens, I always remember the words of a good friend, who has a bit of an understanding of psychology and who, when we've talked, has always told me: “Brother, we Cubans are on the verge of madness. The line between lucidity and dementia is as thin as a sewing thread.”
Then I reflect: “Relax, this too shall pass.” Meanwhile, all that's left is to look for alternatives, to help and support those who need it. Better times will come. To you who are reading this, thank you for being here and for allowing me to write this #catharsis. A big hug! I promise to stick around for a while, and I hope it's a long-term commitment. See you around!

It's amazing what I've read here. In a way, I know the situation, and I've actually lived through similar moments in my own country, but never on the scale of Cuba. Life is very strange; I can see it more clearly every day. I understand that we fall into this hope that everything will get better. We can do nothing but cling to it and try to improve ourselves, both economically and mentally, even though we know that many died waiting to see those better times... It's a good catharsis, brother, and our blogs are perfect for releasing all those uncomfortable feelings we carry inside. A sincere hug from afar to you!...

Hello dear friend. The situation we are experiencing is really worrying.
Cubans learned to live in a difficult context but where the basics existed, in one way or another, we also had key services such as Health and Education.
I'm not talking about conformism, but survival. Today everything is geared to the same core, which does not allow you to get afloat.
At times like these, the most important thing is to be healthy and for the family to be well. For now, waiting for it to happen is a nightmare.
Thank you very much for your support and comment. I am very grateful. A big hug.
