My Old Friend: Seller of Meatballs and Fried Tofu
"Long time no see, finally we meet for a moment." my opening sentence greets Hiveans friends again through my short story about "My Old Friend: Seller of Meatballs and Fried Tofu"
As usual, my routine in the afternoon is to pick up my child who is still in elementary school. While waiting for the school bell, the sign that it was time to go home, the smoke from the cart with a large umbrella roof caught my attention, occasionally giving off a distinctive scent.
Immediately I approached the cart, and my curiosity answered. The source of scent comes from the process of cooking several types of food over coals that are burned by traveling food vendor.
Unexpectedly, the traveling food vendor turned out to be an old friend of mine. His name was Mukhlis, and at that time he was our class leader in junior high school.
Of course, this meeting evokes old stories from the 1991-1993 era. Joys and sorrows became the theme of our conversation and occasionally he stopped because he was busy selling his wares on a modified cart with a motorcycle as the driving force around from one location to another.
Meatballs and tofu are the mainstays of the menu it sells. Some of these foods are grilled with charcoal. During the cooking process, it is smeared with self-mixed spices and added with sweet soy sauce and chili sauce to add to the delicious taste.
He said the seasoning was "curry seasoning," also known as "curry powder."
Friends of Hiveans! Wherever you are
I will give a brief description of "Curry Powder". Based on search results on one of the following Wikipedia links:
Curry powder is a spice mix originating from the Indian subcontinent. Key ingredients of curry powder consist of ginger, garlic, fennel, mace, cumin, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon and turmeric and have been in use for over 4000 years, at least since the Indus Valley civilization
Please click this link for detailed information.
In our area, the existence of curry powder has become the main ingredient in special dishes to welcome the holidays. Usually, this special dish is in the form of a meat curry made from several types of farm animals, such as goats, cows, chickens, and ducks. This culture is influenced by a large number of immigrants from the Indian Continent who live here.
Returning to the tale of my old friend, you simply need to spend Rp. 200 (about $0.13) to sample this food item.
This brief meeting concluded with jokes laughter and the sharing of experiences with the #ASEANHIVECOMMUNITY community
Hopefully, it will inspire determining a different special menu when gathering with loved ones.
