Arkham Intelligence, Doxing the Blockchain?

avatar

Most of us probably know that blockchain transactions are public and can be viewed by anyone. Although those information like wallet addresses and all transactions made thereto are publicly accessible, the owners are mostly anonymous or the identities of the wallet owners are not known. Arkham aims to do the opposite and deanonymize that by algorithmically matching the addresses with real people and institutions.

Brief Intro to Arkham Intelligence

Arkham is the crypto-intelligence platform that aims to match cryptocurrency activities and transactions (or wallets) with the real identities of people or entities behind them through its own developed proprietary AI called ULTRA.

Ultra gathers on and off-chain data from a variety of sources and synthesizes them to form a single, scalable, amendable source of truth. Ultra allows Arkham to transform raw blockchain transaction information into a clear view of the entities using cryptocurrencies and their activities, including exchanges, trading firms, and individuals. At present, the Arkham platform contains over 350 million labels and 200,000 entity pages.²

According to the Whitepaper, the intelligence platform sources out and collects on-chain and off chain data, combines all and then attributes them to the real world identities of the owners of the wallet addresses. It mentioned that the core of the platform is the Profiler, re:

The Profiler is a holistic view of an entity or address’s activity, including transaction history, which can be filtered and sorted by USD value, token, counterparty, and time; portfolio holdings; balance history; profit and loss; exchange usage; top counterparties. The profiler is the core of the platform because it presents a suite of intelligence on an entity or address for a full picture of its activity. ³

The Profiler contains the following sets of information (Units), re:

  • Portfolio: Displays the current and historical holdings, down to the details of the tokens and the networks. It also shows the "Archive, which allows for comparison of portfolio holdings at any two points in time."

  • Historical Performance: Shows the total balance of the portfolio in USD, both the balance history and profit and loss.

  • Counterparties: Displays the exchange usage in terms of volume, by deposits and withdrawals. Also shows the top address/entity counterparties.

  • Transactions: Displays every transaction, full history are updated in real-time. These transactions can be sorted and filtered in various categories.

It supports various networks like Polygon, Avalanche, Optimism, BNB Chain, Tron among others. Its partners include Coinbase. The project is said to be backed by well-known investors like Tim Draper, Bedrock Capital, Wintermute Trading, GSR Markets, and the co-founders of Palantir and OpenAI.

The platform is currently on close beta and per Binance research, there had been over 200k registered participants including over 5k crypto professionals from various leading crypto exchanges, trading firms and publications. (Binance)

Token & Tokenomics

ARKM is the Arkham's native utility token and are used as follows:

  • Governance token
  • As the main currency for the Arkham Intel Exchange
  • Incentivize users who submit intel and to those who refer new users to the platform.

Total initial supply: 1,000,000,000 distributed as follows:

  • Ecosystem Incentives and Grants: 37.3% (373 million ARKM)
This fund is further sub-divided, re: 28.7% for Community rewards, 26.8% for the Contributor Incentive Pool; 26.7% for DON PoS Rewards and 17.7% for Ecosystem Grants.

  • Core Contributors: 20% (200 million ARKM)

  • Investors: 17.5% (175 million ARKM)

  • Foundation Treasury: 17.2% (172 million ARKM)

  • Binance Launchpad: 5.0% (50 million ARKM)

  • Advisors: 3.0% (30 million ARKM)

Vesting

  • Investor, core contributor and advisor tokens: Locked for 1 year after listing. They unlock linearly over 3 years.

  • Ecosystem Fund: Unlocks over 5 years

  • Foundation Treasury: Unlocks over 7 years.

  • The initial circulating supply is 15% (150 million) of the total supply.

  • The ARKM total supply will become fully unlocked 7 years after listing.

There are no planned ARKM emissions. ARKM is not designed to be inflationary and there are no plans to mint more tokens.

Recently, Arkham unveiled a new addition to its ecosystem, referring it as the world's first on-chain intelligence exchange where people "can buy and sell information on the owner of any blockchain wallet address anonymously via smart contract." I will be sharing more about this in the next post.

Summary (TL;DR)

  • Arkham Intelligence Platform employs its own AI, Ultra to gather and collect transaction data and information from various sources (both on-chain and off-chain) and then match them to the real identities of the individuals that own them. It is to say that it's purpose is to dox people behind the crypto wallet addresses.

  • Akham has its own utility token, ARKM which is use to incentivize its users for submitting intel and for referring other users to the platform. It is also used as a governance token where holders with certain amount of ARKM can submit Arkham Improvement Proposals (AIP).

  • Arkham has unveiled its own marketplace, the Arkham Intel Exchange where users can buy and sell information on any blockchain wallet they wish. More on this on the incoming article.

I worked as a customer insight manager for a bank in Turkey for several years. Unification of an individual's data is essential and I can envision the marketing, security, and credit related use cases.

That's good to know. The intelligence technology is good, it's how people are going to use the individual's data and information is where the worry lies :) But yes, it can be helpful for in solving and/or catching frauds😉

Oh wait are you now saying that we can know the people who made some particular transactions or how

Apparently, yes. ULTRA, the Arkham's AI can do that. It can collect data and then match them. Their aim is to deanonymize the blockchain and make it truly transparent. But then, that may mean privacy can be compromised.

Thanks for the detailed overview of Arkham Intelligence. It's an interesting project with a lot of potential, but it also raises some concerns about privacy and security.

On the one hand, it's clear that there is a need for tools that can help to track and identify cryptocurrency transactions. This is especially important in cases where there is suspected criminal activity or financial fraud. Arkham's AI-powered platform could be a valuable tool for law enforcement and financial regulators.

On the other hand, it's also important to be aware of the potential privacy implications of this technology. If Arkham is able to successfully deanonymize cryptocurrency transactions, this could have a chilling effect on people's willingness to use cryptocurrencies. It could also make it easier for criminals to track and target their victims.

Thank you too for sharing your thoughts. The technology is kind of a two-edged sword. It can be helpful when used properly and can also be harmful when exploited. I share the same concerns and worried that some people might use it to the detriment of others. There will always be bad actors whether we like it or not.

It's a thing I don't like. I love to keep everything hidden from anyone. Who knows if it bring more trouble for us. positive and negative both can happen. What do you think?

I feel the same way. Although it can be helpful if people are trying to find scammers and frauds. They even have a exchange where people can buy and sell wallet info. I'll be sharing it soon.
