Today's Gen Z May Never "Know" These

avatar
(Edited)

Pretty much on any family gatherings we have, the "young ones" kind of "instinctively" group themselves together and talk amongst themselves of stuffs they know and can relate with - mobile games, new mobile phone app, TikTok and what have yous.

While the young "once" do the same thing but with different topics - the past, mundane things, and when kids are mentioned, you're sure someone's going to say "oh kids these days are like this" and how they wished about that etcetera.

Time has evolved and although we would wish some things could be different, we just can't stop change nor force ways to be the same as they were 20-30-40 years ago. Aah, those nostalgic years we can only re-live in memories.

Perhaps today's Gen Z, the digitally-inclined generation would never grasp what it was like back then and get a taste of any of what we experienced even. Talk about having fun outdoors like we used to do:

  • Playing street games like patintero until we bath in our own sweat and our Moms would have to yell at the top of their lungs that it was time to eat before we disperse.

  • Enjoy playing Pick-Up Sticks and laugh until our stomachs hurt because one of us cannot even pick a single stick out without making a mess of everything. And oh the joy is just incomparable when one successfully finishes the game and the excitement to start all over again.

  • Swimming at the river
I don't get to see kids around here do this anymore. It's one of the things that children ages ago enjoy so much that they become good at swimming even without someone training them, lol!

Well, these are just some of the many things that the "young once" did for fun which youths of the present may never get to experience. Thinking about it, I just had to let go of a sigh because aren't they missing too much? Or maybe not...

And now I wonder, would any of today's youths know how to operate a VHS player when presented with one? Would they even have a clue of what we call "Betamax"? I guess they would be rolling their eyes on us on this one too.

Wala na din akong nakitang naglalaro ng ganyan ngayon sis. Mostly ang mga bata ngayon, gadget na ang hawak. Thanks for the LUV sis

You're welcome sis and good morning :)

Good morning din sis

Yan ang maganda sis para d sila ma-addict sa gadgets. Ang hirap kaya tawagin ang bata kapag nasubsob sa gadget.

This post relaly reminds me of my childhood days where we can play outside the house under the sun without minding about being wet because of sweat. Those special and golden days.
How I wish children now can play such games just like before. We can't really change the fact that teh world really is evolving and changing.

Oh it's good you know it :) And you are so right, advancement cannot be stopped. And glad we can't because by then we won't be able to experience what we are having today. Absolutely part of our lives and becoming a lifestyle too :)

I remember growing up as a kid, we play with clay mud and we make beautiful pots and objects out of it. I guess that part of my memory birthed the sculpture artist I turned out to be now. ☺️

We used to do such fun things as a child, sis. Now I'm curious about the game called Patintero ;)
I didn't have a river nearby to swim in, although on some holidays I did. However, I do remember climbing all the time in the mango tree in the backyard of my uncle's house. My son and his friends don't think they have memories like that.

Thanks for participating in the BOM, remember to leave your links if you haven't done so, sis.

Glad to hear sis that you had such fun childhood memories. Climbing trees is cool too as long as no one falls down :)

Patintero is a fun game, it's like guarding anyone not to get pass the marked areas of the playing field hehe.

Oh, I forgot to drop the link, will do it now, thanks a lot for reminding me :)

I think that time is the golden time of playing such kind of game . I am able to enjoy those game and it giving me a lucky feeling . But such kind of game is unknown to recent generation's kid. I think they are unlucky.

It seems our childhood is a lot more fun that these days, although advancement is great too. Kids now are more on tech stuff and that's what is fun for them.

Haha that was a nice read, so many different things. Like people were more relaxed and less afraid something would happen, I remember. It's sad in a way.. Some things were better when we were kids if you ask me..

That's true, we seem to have less stress and more fun in our childhood days compared to this day and age where kids seem to be more digital. Like the old folks often say, "things are better in the old days" hehe, although not everything but yeah, most :)

Oh thats a great topic the silverbloggers choose :-) Think I will have to dive into this one :-)

By the way it's crazy here! When I was a kid ANYONE of us could swim. These days it seems a lot of parents dont care about showing their kids how to swim! I mean, this can be life saving so I simply dont understand.

I'll be waiting for your entry hehe :)

Oh, so it's the same thing there, it seems not many kids these days are "physically" active and one thing I noticed here too is that not many children seem to be self-reliant or "responsive" in times of emergencies comparing to the kids of olden days and it's quite alarming especially when it comes to safety. Got reminded about it when you mentioned about swimming as a life-saving skill.

Yes, it is interesting to think about today's youth and what they will not experience from our past. I guess it is just part of getting older.
The kids don't want to hear about it. They just roll their eyes and say, "Okay, Boomer!"
Much like we tired of hearing about how tough it was for our parents and grandparents.
I guess it is just the circle of life.

You are right about that John. It's quite funny when thinking about it. We heard words from our grand parents and parents, now, kids may hear from us too, lol! But yes, it's how life is. Time passes by, things get replaced with new ones and so are the old ways fading away.
