MAKING AN ELASTIC SHORTS // FOR MY YOGA SESSIONS

_______________________________Hello Hivers_____________________________________

My morning routine consist of coffee at the sun, a good breakfast like yogurt with fruits or eggs and of course yoga training. It is still pretty summer here so I usually practise on shorts and sleeveless top so I decided to sew a new shorts for myself. I believe it is important for us women to feel beautiful and good with ourselves even when we excercise or doing the laundry hehe.

So I had this super cute elastic lurex fabric with this awesome mint color and I couldn't think of anything better than a shorts for my yoga sessions. I really love the texture of lurex fabric, it feels so good and hug the body perfectly but I have never worked with something similar so it was a challenge for me.

I started by cutting the pieces using my template and the pinned the side parts from my shorts together in order to sew them first. I mainly used my serger machine for this project because the normal stitch of the sewing machine will not last on the elastic fabric.

As soon as I finished sewing the side parts the next step was to sew the small inside side parts of the shorts together. I can say that even if I haven't worked with a fabric like this again it wasn't that hard in the end and I am happy about that.

The last step about the main body of the shorts was to sew up the seam in the crotch and the central seam together at once. So the main shorts body is ready in like only 3 easy moves.

So the next and important step after that was to make the waistband of the shorts. I started by sewing the central seam of waistband and also cutting an elastic to add it on the waist. The elastic material was approximate the half lenght of the total lenght of the waist in order to be enough tight.

As soon as I had "closed" the central seam of waistband I sewed the edge of elastic on that seam in order to be stable enough. After that I did a light stitch with my sewing machine at the bottom of the waistband in order to be easier for my next step.

The last step was to sew the main body of shorts with the waistband. Again I used my serger machine for that step so I am sure that the result is safe and stable. If I wanted to do a 100% work done like all other shorts I had to also sew the hem but I do not own a sewing machine with a double seam so I prefered to leave it like this. Actually I kinda like it more cause it offers more freedom for my leg moves without tighting me.

So that was a super easy project which I finished in like only 7 moves. I also enjoyed using my serger machine for a whole project, it is a great machine to work with. So here are some photos of my new shorts while doing a yoga session at the beach :

Have a great day!

I haven't worked with that fabric and it does look a bit complicated, but after reading your explanations, I think I should give it a try!

The color and the fabric look awesome, and I think yoga-pants was a really good decision:) would you have enough left for a matching top?😉
And yess I agree, we can dress up also to do laundry and bring out the trash, or yoga, or anything can be an inspiration!!:)
Beautiful!! 💕
