_______________Hello guys, I hope you are all doing great!_______________

Starting with this one, I decided to create a mini series of posts to share with you some information and photos of the beautiful rivers that are located in Epirus region, where I have origins from.

To start with, Epirus is a region in northwestern Greece which is mostly is rugged and mountainous. The regional units of Epirus are Ioannina, Thesprotia, Arta and Preveza. Today I am gonna talk you about Acheron river, which source is near the village Zotiko, in the southwestern part of the Ioannina regional unit.

Some informations have been taken from wiki in order to be accurate!

Acheron river is refered in Greek mythology as the entrance to the Underworld where souls of dead people ferried across by Charon.

Acheron river is 52 km long and it has generally quite cold water temperature even at the summer months.

The last years it has become a huge tourist attraction, mostly at the summer months for hiking and rafting. One way to cross the river is following the hiking trail.

The other way is hiking though the river. There are spots that the river has low level of water and as soon as you continue there are spots that you have to swim as well. That means that if you wanna try this unique experience you have to be organised with waterproof equipment for your personal belongings.

At the beggining you might find the water extremely cold and believe that your body can not stand it. Trust me as soon as you get in it takes about 3 minutes for your body to actually become numb and get used to the temperature and it totaly worths the effort.

Also those low temperatures of the water really help with injuries and chronic pains so is a great healing for your body!

What I really love about Acheron is that you can see many different people of all ages experience this adventure, such as old couples even families with small kids.

No matter which trail you will choose to follow, it will be an once-in-a-lifetime experience and you will be amazed of the nature's beauty.

Here are some useful tips of what you must have if you choose the water trail:

  • Water shoes for sure (no flipflops or shoes with flat sole)
  • Waterproof bag for your belongings
  • Waterproof case for your mobile phone
  • Lightweight clothes ( such as bikini or shorts)
  • And better not carry much stuff with you cause it would make it difficult for you

That's all about this diamond called Acheron, I definetely recommend it for a visit if you ever visit Epirus region.

I hope you enjoyed my post, let me know if you have any further questions I would love to help and stay tuned for the next part of "Rivers Of Epirus".

Stay positive!
