UPCYCLING AN OLD DENIM JEANS // CREATING A NEW SKIRT

___________________________________Hello Hivers___________________________________

A couple of days ago I visited my parents at my hometown and I had the chance to look at my old wardrobe and find some old clothes that I haven't wear for years now. Also my boyfriend found some of his old denim jeans that don't fit him anymore and gave it to me to experiment with them. I am a supporter of upcycling clothes cause you can create so many new things while giving a new purpose to your old clothes.

So today's project is about a denim long skirt which comes from recycle of an old denim jeans. As I told you before I found those pair of jeans at my old wardrobe, I haven't see them for years now but at my teenage years I used to weat it a lot. It is quite baggy with those rips at the front side and I though it would be perfect to repurpose it into a denim skirt.

I was thinking about how can I make the skirt while keeping its seams but at the same time without looking weird. I started cutting right next to the inside side seams both sides until the cotch seam with my scissors.

I kept cutting from the crotch seam to the zipper and all the way up, same process like before. I could have stopped cutting at the point of the zipper I guess but the pants were a little loose at my waist so I wanted them to fit perfect. I pinned the zipper a little to the side the crotch up to the one pant leg in order to look more flat.

I changed some foots until I found the right one that works for thick fabrics like this, it was kinda hard at some points I can say. Also I didn't knew until now that there are threads especially for denim fabrics and my polyester thread was cutting all the time. Well after many stitches I managed to sew it but for the next denim project I will be more prepered for sure.

For the back side of the denim I followed the same steps with the front, cutting the inside seams almost all the way up and pinned the crotch at the top of one pant leg.

I sewed it many times as well cause as i told you I didn't have the right thread for denim so it was kinda hard.

Here is the result of my new denim long skirt:

To tell you the truth I never had a long denim skirt before don't know why, but I love this one. It has a great lenght and the excact long rip at the middle I wanted to. I enjoyed much this project cause we can say I "saved" a cloth from throwing it to rubbish and made a piece that I didn't have in my wardrobe so it is definitely a win.

Thank you for stopping by guys, I hope you enjoyed my project as much as I did.

Have a great day everyone!

I loved this project! Great idea to recycle these pants, a perfectly saved garment. I have made skirts out of jeans, but I always made them short. This long version is unique and combines very well with your style, I love the final photo session. Sewing jeans is difficult, but it turned out very well.

Congratulations, have a great weekend ❣️.

Thank you so much for these kind words, I am really happy when people like my projects and also can see my personality in them! ❤️
Yeah I can say that it was kinda tricky sewing jeans but for my future projects I will be more prepered, for instance buying a special thread for denim fabrics and see if this works out better. 😊

Awesome idea!!! Indeed its really cool how it doesnt look odd at all as a skirt but you still see the trousers in the skirt, I love it!!
And actually upcycling old clothes of yourself, is also really interesting, so you still have all the memories about the garment from before... gives another awesome character to it..
...makes me want to design some fashion collections with you:))
