GameRevival - Mega Man II (NES) [IT/EN]
IT
Boss | Arma | Debolezza |
---|---|---|
Metal Man | Metal Blade | Quick Boomerang |
Air Man | Air Shooter | Leaf Shield |
Bubble Man | Bubble Lead | Metal Blade |
Wood Man | Leaf Shield | Atomic Fire/ Metal Blade |
Flash Man | Time Stopper | Crash Bomber / Metal Blade |
Crash Man | Crash Bomber | Air Shooter |
Heat Man | Atomic Fire | Bubble Lead |
Quick Man | Quick Boomerang | Time Stopper / Crash Bomber |
---|---|---|
Item 1 | Piattaforma per movimento verticale | Heat Man |
Item 2 | Razzo per spostamento orizzontale | Air Man |
Boss | Debolezza |
---|---|
Dragon | Atomic Fire / Quick Boomerang |
Wall Robot | Metal Blade |
Gutsdozer | Quick Boomerang |
Wall Shooters | solo con Crash Bomber |
Wily Machine 2 | Metal Blade |
EN
Good morning to all #gamers and to all the #hivegaming community!
I've always been fond of videogames and even today, when I can afford the time to devote to gaming, it remains one of my favorite pastimes.
Today I want to introduce you to one of my favorite video games since I was a child: Mega Man II.
This title was produced by Tokuro Fujiwara and published by #Capcom for the #NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) platform in 1988 , a few years before I was born. As luck would have it, my older brother bought it shortly after its release in Europe (1990) and I got to know this game during my childhood, playing it for countless hours. The game is part of the Mega Man saga, born in 1987 with the first chapter Mega Man I and inspired by the hand of the designer Akira Kitamura, the saga is still alive today with remakes, spin-offs and new chapters, boasting more than 50 games published for different gaming platforms. If you want to deepen the topic saga try to take a look at the Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Man .
THE GAME
Mega Man II is a 2D action videogame with a sci-fi storyline where you play as Mega Man, a man-robot created by Dr. Light (a character who will be our collaborator during the game) and who fights against the evil Dr. Wily and his robot armies.
In the first part of the game we have to face 8 levels, each of which will lead us to the battle against a Boss. Each boss and each level has its own peculiarities (as we can already guess from the initial screen and the names of our enemies) and every time we defeat one Dr. Light will prepare an armor with the skills of the defeated boss. These weapons can be used at any time of the game by selecting them from the menu. These weapons will come in handy when defeating other bosses or certain enemies, which gives us input on the order in which to tackle the levels.
Boss | Weapon | Weakness |
---|---|---|
Metal Man | Metal Blade | Quick Boomerang |
Air Man | Air Shooter | Leaf Shield |
Bubble Man | Bubble Lead | Metal Blade |
Wood Man | Leaf Shield | Atomic Fire/ Metal Blade |
Flash Man | Time Stopper | Crash Bomber/ Metal Blade |
Crash Man | Crash Bomber | Air Shooter |
Heat Man | Atomic Fire | Bubble Lead |
Quick Man | Quick Boomerang | Time Stopper / Crash Bomber |
In addition to the boss weapons in some battles we will also be rewarded with 3 Items that will be crucial in order to get through certain moments of the game:
Item | Type of movement | Boss to defeat |
---|---|---|
Item 1 | Platform for vertical movement | Heat Man |
Item 2 | Horizontal movement rocket | Air Man |
Item 3 | Platform going up the walls | Flash Man |
Once the first 8 levels are finished, Dr. Wily will appear and he will escape on a starship to take refuge in his castle.
Here begins the second part of the game, in the castle of Dr. Wily levels become more complex and it will be essential to know how to use all the items and weapons earned in the first part. Unlike the initial stage, here we can't choose the order in which to advance, but we are forced to follow the map of the castle, level after level. The bosses to face in this final part of the game are 6:
Boss | Debulence |
---|---|
Dragon | Atomic Fire / Quick Boomerang |
Wall Robot | Metal Blade |
Gutsdozer | Quick Boomerang |
Wall Shooters | Only with Crash Bomber |
Wily Machine 2 | Metal Blade |
Alien Holograph (Final Boss) | Only with Bubble Lead |
At this point I think I have given you all the tips you need to deal with this platform game in the best way, you just have to try it for yourself! Have fun with this immortal Capcom title!
A NOTE OFF TOPIC
Being a musician as well as a gamer, another aspect that I've always loved about this game is the music, and evidently I must not have been the only one to be impressed by that incredible sound at 8bit. The soundtrack was composed by Takashi Tateishi. Over the years I've done some research and it turns out that the aforementioned music has been revisited in different ways and in different settings of modern (and not) music. This completely blew my mind (in a good way) and I want to propose you two listens that are at the antipodes between them, and also from 8bit music!
The first listen comes from the United States and it's a band called Bit Brigade, I leave you the link of their concert where they play the soundtrack while a band member completes the game:
(I became so fond of them that I also bought their Mega Man II soundrack vinyl and the Zelda one)
The second listen on the other hand is, in its own way, even more amazing. It is the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra that under the conduction of Charles Hazlewood plays a suite from this chapter of Mega Man:
That's really it. I hope I made you appreciate this retro gaming gem that marked my passion for video games!
See you at the next GameRevival!
