English Version
There are people who, no matter how much time passes without seeing them, make it feel as though nothing has changed the moment you meet again. That's exactly how it is with my best friend Lily, my sister by heart. This week, after such a long time apart because our busy lives had taken us in different directions, we finally found time to get together.
She invited me to lunch at El Rincón de las Brasas, a restaurant I had been wanting to visit for quite a while. I had heard nothing but great things about it, so my expectations were pretty high. Thankfully, it exceeded every one of them.
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine kindness and outstanding service that made us feel truly welcome. That kind of hospitality always makes a dining experience even more enjoyable.
We arrived absolutely starving, so we started with grilled pork ribs served with fried root vegetables, along with a couple of micheladas to drink. The ribs were incredibly flavorful, with that unmistakable smoky taste that only charcoal grilling can give. We were so hungry that we completely overlooked the lemon and salt on the table until much later. I especially loved the fried sweet potatoes—they were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious.
As for the michelada, I can honestly say it was the best one I've ever had. It was made with Mayabe, a Cuban beer, and had plenty of fresh lime juice and just the right amount of salt. It was refreshing and full of flavor.
Even though we were already feeling quite full, we couldn't resist trying more of the menu. Lily ordered the pork fajitas, while I chose the grilled pork chops with French fries, asking them to leave out the rice that normally came as a side.
I have to admit those were the best pork chops I've ever eaten. They had an amazing charcoal-grilled flavor and were served with a delicious garlic sauce that made every bite even better. The fries were perfectly golden and crispy. By then I honestly felt like I couldn't eat another bite, but the food was simply too good to stop.
To finish our meal, despite barely having any room left, we shared a café bombón. It was rich, sweet, strong, and absolutely delicious—the perfect ending to an unforgettable lunch.
As wonderful as the food was, the best part of the day wasn't what we ate. It was finally spending quality time with Lily again. We caught up on everything that had happened in our lives, sharing our joys, our struggles, our dreams, and all the little stories we'd missed. We laughed so much that the hours seemed to fly by.
Some friendships only grow stronger with time. I left the restaurant with a very happy stomach, but an even fuller heart. I truly hope it won't be long before we can enjoy another afternoon like this together.
Here's to many more years of friendship, sisterhood, and moments that nourish the soul just as much as a wonderful meal.
