El domingo pasado, me di una vuelta por mi ciudad, Holguín, Cuba y me topé con el hotel E. Esmeralda, algo que había estado en mi radar desde hace tiempo. Este se encuentra justo enfrente del parque San José, y la verdad es que es poco conocido, y sobre todo entre los mismos holguineros. Desde que abrió sus puertas, ha tenido mala fama y no es precisamente un imán para los turistas. De las 5 habitaciones que tiene, solo 3 están en uso porque hay problemas con las filtraciones de agua, y ha sido objeto de varias reparaciones.

A pesar de todo eso, el lugar tiene un encanto colonial que transmite tranquilidad. Es íntimo y te invita a quedarte un rato, pero se nota en la cara de los trabajadores que la clientela no es precisamente abundante. De hecho, creo que yo fui la primera de ese día. Y bueno, debo admitir que el precio del mojito que pedí estaba por las nubes, comparado con otros sitios de la ciudad, así que no están ayudándose mucho en atraer clientes.

Me gustaron mucho los cuadros y la decoración, y aunque el mojito no era el mejor que he probado, estaba decente. Tomé unas cuantas fotos, pero no pude explorar más allá del patio interior porque no había más personal por allí. En resumen, tiene su encanto, pero parece que les falta un poco de vida y ambiente.

Last Sunday, I took a walk around my city, Holguin, Cuba and stumbled upon the E. Esmeralda hotel, something that had been on my radar for some time. This one is located right in front of San José Park, and the truth is that it is little known, and especially among Holguineros themselves. Since it opened its doors, it has had a bad reputation and is not exactly a magnet for tourists. Of the 5 rooms it has, only 3 are in use because there are problems with water leaks, and it has undergone several repairs.

Despite all that, the place has a colonial charm that conveys tranquility. It is intimate and invites you to stay a while, but you can see in the faces of the workers that the clientele is not exactly abundant. In fact, I think I was the first one there that day. And well, I must admit that the price of the mojito I ordered was through the roof, compared to other places in town, so they are not helping themselves much in attracting customers.

I really liked the paintings and decor, and while the mojito wasn't the best I've ever had, it was decent. I took a few pictures, but couldn't explore beyond the inner courtyard because there were no other staff around. All in all, it has its charm, but they seem to lack a bit of life and ambiance.
