It was on the 6th of July 2022 at about 5a.m, I woke up to say my morning prayers and it was a short one. The noise outside my room was deafening but I was not angry about it because I love a quiet early morning. It was the morning of my traditional marriage and we had many people come spend the night in our house in preparation for my big day, most of the people came to help mum with cooking while others just came to lend morale support.
I am from Akwa ibom state in the Southern part of Nigeria and our traditional marriage is the most important part of the marriage rites in Nigeria. This process involves the two families i.e the bride's family and the groom's family.

Firstly the groom comes with his family members to meet the family of the bride for an introduction, here the bride's family will ask the groom's family some questions inorder to know more about the groom's family. After this a list is given to the groom's family and this list includes the list of items needed and the bride price. The groom's family will take this list and study it. They will come back and bargain about some of the items on the list. After the two families have come to an agreement,a date will be set for the items on the list to be brought to the bride's family.
On the 6th of July after my prayers I sorted out my dress and accessories for my big day. I set out for the location I'm suppose to use for dressing up. My friend Emma came to help me dress up and my make up artist Doris came also.
At about 2p.m we went for a photo shoot and it was all fun. All the anxiety I had was gone because I love taking pictures.
It was time for the traditional marriage proper and we proceeded to the venue of the event. I was shocked at the number of people I saw, over 600 persons were in attendance.

The groom's family were treated with different Akwa ibom dishes As our culture has it, after they finished eating, my family was called to take their seat and the danced to the melodious tune provided by the live band. The groom's family followed. The groom's family were asked why they were here and the spokesman for the groom's family answered. After a brief introduction of the members of the two families, the groom and his entourage were ushered in with a sweet tune from the band , for the first time I saw my husband dancing I just knew he was filled with joy and happy, and the whole crowd were up on their feet to cheer my husband. Then I was asked to come out from my waiting room , I was ushered in with my favorite tune, I was just so happy, the day I have been preparing for this past month was here, the whole crowd was up on their feet dancing and clapping. The Master of Ceremony asked the guests to appreciate the beautiful bride and give her money to prepare the first pot of soup for her husband.

The groom was asked if I was his bride and he said yes. Then I took a bottle of wine to show my parents my husband and asked for their blessings. My Father prayed for us after drinking the wine I gave them, my Mum prayed for us, then my husband also took a bottle of wine and took me to his parents and they prayed for us and gave us their blessings and then we were declared husband and wife. We then took pictures with some of our guests.
