Ever since Mary married her husband, James, she has complained severally about his non-challent attitude towards her. He would eat and not show appreciation neither show care towards her despite all her efforts. He wasn't like that before they married so she was confused; she couldn't fathom what was wrong with him.

James never saw it as an issue whenever she brought it up, he felt as the bread winner of the family, there was no need. All her wives plea and attitude never changed his belief about the issue. This went on for 11 years and somehow, somewhere, their marriage wasn't as rosy as it should be. They were both tired and not ready to make moves to amend the strain.

One evening on his way back from work, he went to seek counsel from an elder in the neighborhood. People around looked up to him, he was wise, funny and blunt. James thought he was the right person to talk to. After so much discussion, Elder Collins smiled.

“Young man, you are the problem in your marriage. The little things you don't count are what matters most to your wife. Make your house comfortable for her, she will make it a home for you both.”

James listened carefully to every word. “Go home now my son and remember to compliment your wife about dinner and but her gifts.” Elder Collins continued.

James’s eyes lit up, he saw his fault in this issue. He thanked the man and made his way home with so much joy. His wife was even surprised to see him that much happy, she didn't believe the moment so she went along with it. He went to shower upstairs while she went to the kitchen to get his food.

As she set the table, he got there. She served him and watched as he ate. She was used to being around him whenever he was eating. James finished the food and looked at his wife.

“What a wonderful dinner you have served my dear, the food is extremely sweet and I commend your effort.”

Mary paused as the words hit her, she could feel her blood rise as she tried to pack the plates. She turned to her husband, he could sense the trouble.

“Really? I have waited 1 years to hear your compliment over my food and it is today you choose, today that it's out neighbor food I served you. You are so unbelievable and a wicked man.” She turned and walked away with so tears down her eyes. James couldn't say a word, he was stunned. It was indeed a wrong compliment.

Oh, that is a sweet and sad story. I hope that they can mend things and become close again now that he is at least trying to be a good husband!
