A New Journey Begins! Mount Blade II: Bannerlord

avatar

Hello all, today on Hive I'm going to share one of the games I've enjoyed playing the most in my life, Mount Blade II: Bannerlord. This game has a very special place in my life because the company that released this game is a Turkish game company. I played their previous game and I loved it, but this one is much different and more advanced. It is still being developed. Big patches, graphics updates, cutscenes, additional content are constantly coming. Buckle up and let's start the adventure because it's going to be a lot of fun!

source

I plan to publish this game in a series. Just like I did with Frostpunk, there will be no videos, but I will share screenshots and try to keep you in the story with my detailed narration. Also, like in that game, I want to name some characters after people from the Hive, but unlike Frostpunk, this game will have very few characters whose names I can change. So I recommend you to act fast.

We start the game with an impressive cinematic. It talks about how Calradia, the fantasy world of the game, took its form, the kingdoms, the wars and the empire. You should definitely watch it.

Then we choose the civilization of our character. There are 6 different civilizations. The civilization most similar to the Turks among them is the Kuzait. When you click on this civilization, music with steppe sound plays in the background. That's why I chose this civilization. Each civilization has some disadvantages and advantages. For example, it is 10% cheaper to recruit and upgrade horse troops in Kuzait. We also get a 25% bonus for producing mules, horses, cows and sheep in the villages we own.

Then we customize our character. There are really detailed options here. You can add scars to your face, you can choose your beard and hair among many options. I tried to create a character that looks like me. Yes, he is muscular for me, but that's okay XD You can also choose the pitch of your character's voice. In the battle scenes, I chose a loud voice so that I could give your character's command like a real commander.

Then you choose your character's backstory. Who was your family, what was your prominent feature as a child, etc. You mark 6 options in order and this also shapes your character. You can see my choices in the screenshots.

Lastly, we choose our name. My name is Incublus obviously!

Then you complete a short training and choose a banner. Because we are a banner lord! I wish I could have chosen a banner with a bee or a hive symbol, but instead I chose a Sun icon because Hive changed my life. At least I used the red color of Hive here.

I gathered some soldiers and here we are in the steppes of Kalradia. Our first task is to find ourselves a companion, increase our number of soldiers, increase our dinar, increase our reputation and raise our clan level. Then we will find our siblings.

Dinar, the currency in the game, is very important. If you have money you can solve many problems, but if you don't have money even your soldiers will leave you. One of the most logical things you can do to increase your dinar is trade. You can earn money by buying products you see cheap and selling them in places you see expensive. Also, if you improve your trade in this game, you can even buy cities with money! We will see if we can achieve this at the end of our adventure. Here I am buying grain for cheap.

Another thing you can do to earn dinars is to participate in tournaments organized in cities. For example, here I participated in a tournament in Zeonica. In tournaments you can bet on yourself and if you win the tournament you can win 2000 dinars. You also get a prize if you win the tournament. The more nobles or lords participate in the tournament, the better the prize. When you first start the game, the best prize you can get from the tournament is horses. Because you can earn between 14 and 20 thousand dinars from these special horses!

I pass the first rounds of the tournament, albeit with difficulty, and gradually make it to the final. In the final I meet Alek the Lucky. He is very nervous and never takes his eyes off me. I know he will do everything to beat me.

His first sword strike is on my shield. I dodge the second one and swing my sword at him. A few more sword blows and I defeat Alek. I win my first tournament! I win 1598 dinars in bets and a Tyal Horse as a tournament prize and 3 reputation. We need to improve our renown a lot more and for that we need to win a lot of tournaments.

I can sell this Tyal horse for 12235 dinars right now or keep it for myself. After all, I will win more tournaments and I need these dinars now. So I sell it and buy more grain, of course I buy beer for my soldiers to celebrate my victory, and if I find a city where these products are expensive I will sell them.

Before I left the city I stopped at the inn where I asked to take Alek, the brave warrior I had just beaten in the final of the tournament, as a comrade. He is such a good man that he asked me for some dinars to give to those who had done him favors before. So I gave it to him. It's worth it for you, brave warrior!

I don't want to make the first chapter too long, I don't know what adventures Alek and I will go on in the next chapter and what will happen to us, but there is only one way to find out. Be here when the next episode is released! Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoyed it. I wish you all a wonderful day, take care, Lords and Ladies of the Hive!

I think you recommended this game to me a while back, I am yet to try it but I am excited to see the progress you're going to make through gameplay! Perhaps it might give me some sense of whether I'll like it or not.. Although it has swords and I love myself a swordplay game!!

Dude, there's a lot more to this game than swords. Swords, shields, arrows, spears, axes, daggers, throwing axes, and javelins! I hope you like this game and start playing it. Thanks for stopping by!

Yes, I've heard that there are mods for this. Or you can pretend to be an assassin yourself in the war. You wait and stab the enemy commander with your dagger 🗡️.

I am beyond pleased to see this! My series has been a bit on hold lately as my gaming time has dropped to ~30m increments now and then, but I plan to pick it up again soon. In the meantime, it's going to be awesome to watch your series progress!

Thank you very much, it's always a pleasure to read your series, my friend, and one of the reasons I wanted to start this series was the pleasure I got from reading your series. Of course I'm in love with this game 😅

This game looks fantastic. I love how detailed the character customization and backstory building are. The realistic money system and the ability to recruit opponents as comrades looks amazing too. Such a great gameplay mechanic that they make players think about the comparative value of grain vs horses and having enough money to pay your soldiers or buy them beer lol. Can’t wait to see the next installment!

Exactly! When I played this game before, I was broke and my soldiers abandoned me. No money and no food means no soldiers. I'm so glad you liked it. The next episode will come in a few days.

I never played this game but it actually doesn't look bad at all. I haven't played a good swordplay game since Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Might have to try this one out myself.

You should definitely try this, man. I would love to see this game in an episode of Straw Plays. You have to be very careful because at the beginning of the game the marauders attack you when you don't have soldiers haha.

Oh the TaleWorlds entertainment company is a company that truly broke the mold in terms of originality and gameplay style. I have known about them for a long time because I used to be hooked on Mount & Blade: With Fire and Sword but I didn't know that TaleWorlds was a Turkish videogame company :) , It's nice to know it thanks to this post, pal (y)

I liked the choice of the sun symbol, it was definitely an excellent aesthetic decision, regardless of the reason related to how Hive changed your life, which by the way was really cool and honest of you.

I haven't had the opportunity to try this new Mount and Blade due to hardware issues, but seeing the graphical improvement compared to its predecessors and the gameplay, it really makes me want to try it. I hope you continue with the series of posts that you are planning about it, my friend, so that we can see more features of this great video game, and of course, see how you are doing in the story, :D

Great post, mate Incublus.

Cheers.

I'm so glad you like it, man. Yeah, Taleworlds is a Turkish company. I hope you get a chance to try this game soon, but even if you don't, I will do my best to keep you and other gamers in the adventure. Have a great day!

This happened a lot when the game first came out. I remember the game crashing even when I was visiting a village, or on the mission completion screen. It was awful, but everything seems fine now. We'll see what happens as we join the big battles.
