The Tallest Clock Tower in Turkey - Türkiye'deki En Uzun Saat Kulesi [EN-TR]

(Edited)

Hi all, I haven't been very physically active lately. I've been doing my daily walk again but that's it. I want more physical activity in my life because the less you move, the lazier you get. Anyway, let's leave this topic here for now and I will leave you with the clock tower I visited last weekend.

There are two clock towers in Adana that all locals know about. One is the Big Clock Tower and the other is the Small Clock Tower. I have seen both of them before, but I didn't have the opportunity to see them closely because I saw them while passing by. The Big Clock Tower attracted my attention more because of its name and I took the bus there.

On my way there, I saw such a drawing on a building. I had never heard the name Halet Çambel before. When I researched it, I saw that she was both the first Turkish female athlete to participate in the Olympics and the person who founded the first open-air museum in Turkey. It is my shame not to know this historical personality, but as they say, it is a shame not to know, but not to learn. Halet Çambel

I was really surprised when I went there because it was even taller than I remembered. The street was also very crowded. Both people and cars were everywhere. People were more interested in the kebab restaurants than the clock tower. I think they are used to it because they see it so much. Maybe the restaurant there is a very famous restaurant but I just don't know.

I went to the bottom of the clock tower and walked around and took photos but I didn't see any information board. It's very strange because it's a very famous tower. In fact, it was the tallest clock tower in Turkey with a height of 32 meters and it was built in 1882. It's also very strong because it didn't collapse during the Adana earthquake in 1998. I wish I had read this information from an information board there and not from the internet, because not everyone will search the internet like me and be aware of the fact that this clock tower has been standing there for years. source

Then I went to the park next to the clock tower and sat for a while. A few people had come to the park to enjoy the beautiful weather. The weather was really beautiful. I mean, of course this is not normal because usually at this time of the year we should be freezing. It's supposed to be freezing but we can go out with a light jacket on. The climates are changing. The consequences are going to be severe, but let's not spoil the mood by talking about it now.

I sat under a tree and thought a little bit about how the days are going, what I'm doing in Hive, how my life is going. I really can't keep track of time. It goes by so fast that sometimes I don't have time to do anything between the time I wake up in the morning and the time I go to sleep at night. I hope you are not like me and that your days are fun and active.

I got up to go back home but I saw something very interesting. A king wearing a crown was walking among us 😂. I think they are shooting for social media here. It was very funny. I wanted to take a photo but then I hesitated and decided it was unnecessary. This photo is enough to honor the king 👑.

On the way home I saw our two little friends. The cats don't care about anything, as usual. I called him 5 times and he didn't even look back. He seemed in a good mood and I didn't want to disturb him any more. The dog was actually looking at me, but just as I was about to take a photo of it, it decided to turn back to the person taking the photo. The slow opening of my camera spoiled things. Anyway, someone took a sweet dog photo instead of me haha.

That's all my friends, I enjoyed a beautiful sunny day and had the opportunity to see Turkey's tallest clock tower up close. I hope you enjoyed it, take care and have a great day.

TR

LOL I was looking for a good history blog to read and came across yours. That's interesting bit about the clock but sad they don't have information board about it because that clock has a deep rooted history. That stonework is something I see on games like 0AD and empire age/crusaders 😂

It certainly is. I don't understand how they can forget or not care about this, it's not just any clock tower. It is the tallest clock tower in Turkey. In my opinion, even if it is just a clock tower, it should have an information board. Thanks for your comment Cemy, I'm going to read your post about food sensitivity soon :P

The clock tower looks amazing. I guess it has clocks on all four sides.

I see the king looks like a queen from behind on the pic. Nice clicks, loved the tree leaf.

Yeah man, there's a clock on all 4 sides. I don't know why, but this king reminds me of Theoden from Lord of the Rings. He had a similar face, haha.

I don't remember the character you talked about as it's been long when I watched the LoR series but you may find similarities for sure.

Bilmediğim ne kadar çok şey varmış. Halet ÇAMBEL’i ben de ilk kez duydum.

I have little knowledge about Turkey, and thank you for the virtual tour! Also, that clock tower is interesting! You do not have to look at your phone or watch, hehe!

Although it doesn't really take a lot of time to visit these places, the level of culture we can acquire by visiting them in a day is very high. Now you have gone there and you are curious and you have actually opened the internet and looked and learned.
You have added something to yourself by learning that it did not collapse in the earthquake and that it is the tallest clock tower and so on.

There are some European tours, photography tours.
People visit historical places and get tired for a whole day, just to take pictures. There are even people who come to these with different t-shirts, different dresses. If you ask them, they have seen all these places...
Have they not?
But actually they are as ignorant as before.

In this post you have shown in a very beautiful way how important it is to learn about our cultural heritage in the places we visit. Congratulations. It was a good trip. Thank you for sharing 😁👏🤗🤗🤗

Absolutely, man, visiting this place not only made me happy but also gave me something culturally. I learned something about history. I should definitely visit more places like this. I'm looking for it.

it is my shame not to know this historical personality, but as they say, it is a shame not to know, but not to learn

we learn everyday,so don't beat yourself for not knowing who Halet Cambel is and for the record i don't know who she is either, so that makes the two of us🙃

Nice shots @incublus
