Inktober day 31/2017 - Mask

I took the mask from the Inktober year 2017 and brought it to this year and boy oh boy the mask isn't happy at all. It took one look at the current year and started bleeding. It still bleeds, I guess till the year ends and it's not pretty to look at.

It bleeds for all of the conspiracy theories, all the hate and anger towards other people in a situation where everyone is almost as helpless as the other guy, it bleeds for all the sadness, loneliness, all the unfulfilled hopes and dreams of those who have tried to study, work and be young and live a happy life for the past two years. It bleeds for all the people who can't do anything about their situation, who have no place to escape the status quo, who have lost their lives or their loved ones. And it also bleeds for all those who choose to be ignorant, choose to believe in rumors, choose to believe in everything else than science and the majority of scientists.

What a wonderful start for a new year.

Fortunately this is just a drawing.

And just a text.

I got a new pen and lost the ability to draw straight lines. I tried and tried but couldn't do them anymore, without any help from the app which I didn't want, so I decided to give in to curves, loops, scrambles, twists and partial randomness. Irregularities.

As usual, I exported the drawing from the Sketchbook app as psd to my computer and did just few minor adjustments. I absolutely love the app and the fact that there are layers in it. Mostly I use it so that it's easy to just delete afterwards some bigger maneuvers I've done if it doesn't' look good.

Hmmm... Interesting post. But I am a bit perplexed by it. If I understand it correctly, the ignorant ones are "anti-vaxxers"? :) Cuz you could call me one :) but I don't feel anger or hate towards those who are vaxxed :) @tipu curate

Interesting that you interpreted the text like that.

"...choose to believe in everything else than science and the majority of scientists..." this part got me confused.

Why do you think it's about vaccinations? Or why do you think the sentence that has the word hate in it has something to do with people who do not choose vaccination?

  1. Well, because of all the other sentences before that one that I quoted.
  2. According to popular opinion (the one expressed in the media) people who do not choose vaccination make this decision based on "rumors" and not science.

So again the sentence that I quoted and contrast with the other text got me perplexed.

  1. If you choose to link together the first sentence and the last and everything in between and understand the last sentence in relation to the first one then what about the tittle? Why not include that too? The text does not have the word vaccination in it but does the tittle say vaccination? And the picture? What is the picture about and what kind is it?
  2. Why do you think this text is the same as the popular opinion what you have encountered or the media you say represents the popular opinion?

Hmm :) Ok, I guess I understand it now and confusion is dissipating :) but "...majority of scientists..." is not exactly a true statement when talking about the title (and artwork) either.
But all this just confirms that this is a great piece of art (combination of the text and drawing), cuz you need to keep going back to it if you want to understand true meaning.
Or you just need to read post after you slept at least 7 hours so you wouldn't miss essential info :)

Is there just one simple answer in life or in this post? If you think of all the mental masks that people can wear and have worn, more or less their entire life?

There's no denying it that there has been one big thing going on in the whole world for past couple of years but that's just it, at the same time everything that was going on in 2017 is still going on, the state of climate, people fighting other deceases like cancer, people dying in conflicts etc, but then again everything is seen through the pandemic glasses. So the mental masks people wore 2017 are very different than what they are wearing in 2022. So this is about everything, mental and physical. And yes, we all wear them, masks, sometimes. Some thinner, some thicker for various reasons.

But as the major, biggest issue still is the global pandemic, isn't that the first thing a mask transported from the year 2017 to the future, to year 2022, would see first? A mental mask that is made a physical entity here, in this post, takes one short look and starts to bleed. And the hate thing, it's sometimes all around. Some people choose to think black and white, pick a side and then everyone who is not with them is against them and that is the hate I wrote about. Not saying which side because it comes in many forms.

From my point of view, from the corner of the world where I live in, from this angle, to my eyes, people seem to have a more stronger ability to frown upon other people than before. So much that it no longer is just an inconvenience if someone frowns upon someone elses hair style or clothes but now it sometimes represents itself as hate against people who have chosen differently than what the person frowning has chosen. But that's only from my point of view. Although I try to be objective, it's always colored by my past experiences and my knowledge or ignorance about things.

Even when talking about the sentence that has the words "majority of scientists" in it. There are scientists in many areas of life, but the current situation, people having really strong opinions, seems to have a very bad affect in other areas too, science in general. Black and white thinking, craving for simple answers, straight lines when life is full of curves, loops, twists, turns and general scramble.

I'll just leave these couple links here if you find the mask and masking subject interesting.
